Position:

Tabor Academy in Marion, MA seeks a proven, dedicated, and enthusiastic coach to lead its renowned sailing program. The Head Sailing Coach will oversee coaching staff, recruit top youth sailors, coordinate race schedules, and execute training and practice programs. The Head Sailing Coach must lead the coaching staff and the team by example and coach sailors directly to prepare them for regattas at the New England and national levels. In addition, the head coach must teach and instill the highest levels of sportsmanship in all members of the program. Tabor is a college preparatory school, and the head coach will support our sailors in the college search, recruiting, and selection process. While Tabor's competitive sailing seasons currently run September through early November for the fall and late March through May for the spring, the Head Sailing Coach will have year-round responsibilities. There is the possibility for classroom teaching and broader boarding school responsibilities, as well. The combination of these additional responsibilities is based on the school's needs and the strengths of the person occupying the role. This role could be a part-time or full-time position depending on the needs of the school. Full-time faculty positions may include on-campus housing.

The successful candidate will:

Report to the Director of Athletics and collaborate closely with the Athletic Department in leading all aspects of the sailing program. Serve as head coach for 40+ student-athletes, leading the varsity and junior varsity coaching staff and overseeing the safety, well-being, and development of all program participants. Design and execute effective practices while implementing current coaching and learning pedagogies that support the development and success of individual student-athletes. Recruit high-level prospective student-athletes, meet with prospective students and their families, and support current student-athletes and families through the college search and recruitment process. Maintain meaningful relationships with student-athletes throughout the academic year and contribute actively to the broader life of the Tabor community beyond the waterfront. Collaborate with regional coaches to develop competitive varsity and junior varsity schedules and represent Tabor Academy at regional NESSA meetings. Introduce and support regional/national-level events that attract the broader sailing community to Tabor Academy. Work collaboratively with the Waterfront Director, Director of Facilities, and Marine Maintenance to oversee waterfront operations, including the maintenance, upkeep, and long-term replacement planning for the fleet of 12 FJs, 18 Z420s, 6 C420s, and support boats. Oversee summer sailing initiatives in conjunction with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs. Maintain all required school trainings and certifications and remain current with appropriate safety and professional standards. Work with the Waterfront Director to ensure a safe and vibrant sailing environment for the student body. Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills while working effectively with students, families, colleagues, and community partners; approach this work with patience, empathy, enthusiasm, optimism, flexibility, and a high degree of cultural competency. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

College degree required; experience leading a competitive high school/collegiate/club sailing program

Preferred:
