Job Description

Sports Performance Coach Most coaching job postings sound exactly the same. "We're looking for a passionate, energetic coach who loves working with athletes." Great. So is everybody else. This is not that job posting. Skolfield Sports Performance in Saco, Maine, is looking for a coach who wants more than a few hours on the gym floor. We want someone who wants to build a career, master the craft of coaching, and learn how high-level sports performance training is actually delivered. You will coach youth, middle school, high school, and collegiate athletes who want to become stronger, faster, more explosive, and better prepared for their sport. You will also train adult clients with different goals, abilities, and training backgrounds. You need to be able to connect with an eight-year-old learning how to move, challenge a college athlete chasing the next level, and coach an adult who simply wants to become stronger, healthier, and harder to break. But this opportunity is about more than coaching sessions. You will train to become a Parisi Performance Coach. Founded in 1992, Parisi Speed School has spent more than 30 years building one of the most respected youth sports performance systems in the industry. More than one million athletes have trained through the Parisi system at over 100 locations worldwide. Being a Parisi Coach means something. It means learning a proven system for developing speed, strength, movement, confidence, and character. It means joining a national coaching network with a long history of developing athletes and coaches. It means carrying a standard that was built long before you arrived and doing your part to make it even better. You will also learn training systems most coaches only read about online. You will learn how to use velocity-based training to measure intent, monitor performance, and make better training decisions. You will learn how to assess and develop Reactive Strength Index and use that information to improve elasticity, explosiveness, and athletic performance. You will learn advanced fascial training concepts that go beyond traditional strength and conditioning and help athletes move, transfer force, and perform at a higher level. You will learn how to evaluate athletes from both a musculoskeletal and performance perspective. That means learning how to assess movement, strength, speed, power, mobility, stability, asymmetries, and potential limitations. More importantly, you will learn how to turn that information into an actual training plan. Because collecting data is easy. Knowing what to do with it is coaching. You will not be handed a stopwatch and told to figure it out. You will receive education, mentorship, feedback, and coaching reps. You will learn our evaluation process, progressions, regressions, training systems, and coaching standards. Then we will expect you to use them. This is a hands-on coaching position. You will be expected to bring energy, teach clearly, correct mistakes, build relationships, maintain a professional training environment, and continue improving your knowledge. We want someone who accepts feedback, asks intelligent questions, and earns the opportunity to contribute ideas. Every person who walks through our doors deserves to feel like their training matters. Know their name. Understand their goals. Recognize when they need to be challenged and when they need to be pulled back. We coach people, not spreadsheets. The right candidate has earned a four-year degree in exercise science, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, athletic training, physical education, or a closely related field. A current CSCS certification is strongly preferred. Candidates who meet the requirements and are prepared to sit for the CSCS exam will also be considered. Previous coaching or personal training experience is preferred, but a certification does not automatically make someone a good coach. Character matters. Communication matters. Reliability matters. Being coachable matters. If you spend training sessions looking at your phone, believe coaching energy means screaming at people, think cleaning equipment is beneath you, or need to be reminded repeatedly to handle basic responsibilities, this is not the position for you. If you believe you already know everything you need to know about training, save us both the time. We hire slowly because we are more interested in finding the right person than filling hours on a schedule. Our process may include multiple conversations, time with our staff, and an opportunity for us to watch you coach. A resume can show us where you went to school. It cannot show us whether athletes respond to you. It cannot show us whether you notice details. And it cannot show us whether you are willing to be coached. Starting compensation is $25 to $150 per hour depending on experience, qualifications, responsibilities, and the type of training being delivered. This is a full-time position averaging 25 or more hours per week. The schedule will include a mix of youth sports performance coaching and adult training. Early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends may be required based on client demand. This position has room to grow. If you prove that you can make our athletes, adult clients, coaching staff, and business better, we want to create opportunities for you to do more. To apply, submit your resume, two professional references, and an honest response to one question: Why should we trust you to coach our athletes and adult clients? Skip the generic cover letter about how you have "always been passionate about fitness." Tell us something real. Tell us how you think. Tell us what kind of coach you want to become. If what you send catches our attention, we will talk. And if you are the person we are looking for, this could become a hell of an opportunity.
