The Head Coach serves as a primary leader and strategic visionary within the Baker College Athletic Department, overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of a premier intercollegiate program. This role ensures the program operates in full adherence to the bylaws and regulations of the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Serving as the chief authority on technical instruction, talent acquisition, and program operations, this individual serves as a brand ambassador for Baker College. They are responsible for protecting the integrity of the department while fostering an elite environment dedicated to the academic, athletic, and personal success of student-athletes.
Role and Responsibilities:
Direct all aspects of the athletic program, including technical training, tactical preparation, and game- day coaching and decision-making.
Establish team rules and oversee the supervision, instruction, and holistic development of student- athletes and coaching staff.
Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes and coordinate player evaluation and selection.
Maintain an institutional culture of Champions of Character, fostering sportsmanship, professionalism, and inclusion among all staff and student-athletes.
Develop and implement an annual recruiting plan and associated strategy to meet roster goals and maintain program competitiveness.
Maintain a database of prospective student-athletes in coordination with the Office of Admissions.
Recruit, onboard, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, volunteer staff, and graduate assistants to ensure their professional growth and alignment with departmental goals.
Evaluate prospective transfer students and high school recruits for athletic ability, character, and academic fit for Baker College.
Manage and administer program resources, including the sport-specific budget, in respect to recruitment, team travel, hospitality, and equipment acquisition.
Responsible for submitting the preliminary budget and coordinating fundraising initiatives to enhance program resources.
Organize and manage all team logistics, including game scheduling, travel itineraries, and equipment needs.
Perform daily administrative functions related to the program, ensuring fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.
Monitor the eligibility status of team members in cooperation with the Athletics Compliance Coordinator and academic officials to ensure compliance with NAIA and WHAC regulations.
Create and maintain a positive environment that enhances student learning and academic progress toward degree.
Represent Baker College professionally in all interactions, including conference meetings, community events, and media relations.
Attend regular staff meetings, workshops, and retreats; participate in professional development activities to stay current on national athletic trends.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field (required); Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of collegiate coaching experience with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience with NAIA or NCAA recruitment and eligibility standards, preferred.
Established record of accomplishment in effective coaching, student-athlete development, and budgetary management.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop student-athletes and staff while effectively communicating program expectations to prospective student-athletes and their families.
Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills in competitive situations, with the ability to evaluate talent and make sound personnel decisions.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, including team operations, travel coordination, recruiting activities, and administrative deadlines.
Commitment to maintaining institutional integrity and upholding the core values and regulations of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), and Baker College Athletics.
Knowledge of sport-specific strategies and training methods, along with proficiency in recruiting platforms, video analysis tools, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment:
General office environment. Moderate noise environment.
This position requires frequent travel, including evenings and weekends, and the ability to work flexible and nontraditional hours.
Responsibilities will be performed both on campus and on the road for recruiting, competitions, and other program-related activities. 3
