Summary The Winlock School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our coaching staff as an Assistant Coach for the Middle School Boys Basketball team. This seasonal position offers an opportunity to work closely with student-athletes, fostering their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive and competitive environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the game of basketball and a commitment to the personal development of young athletes. Responsibilities Assist the head coach in planning and executing practice sessions, ensuring a focus on skill development and team cohesion. Support the head coach in developing game strategies and preparing the team for competition. Provide instruction on basketball fundamentals, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive techniques. Help monitor and evaluate player performance during practices and games, providing constructive feedback for improvement. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting sportsmanship and respect among players. Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and player progress. Assist in organizing and supervising team events, including practices, games, and tournaments. Ensure compliance with all school district policies and regulations, as well as league rules and guidelines. Attend staff meetings, coaching clinics, and other professional development opportunities as required. Requirements Previous coaching experience or strong knowledge of basketball at the middle school level or higher. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes. A genuine passion for teaching the game of basketball and developing young players both on and off the court. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching team and with school staff. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for practices and games during the basketball season. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season. A high school diploma or equivalent; a background in physical education or sports management is a plus. Must pass a background check as required by the Winlock School District.
