Role:
The Department of English at Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible position in English Journalism and Nonfiction Writing at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2027. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach journalism and writing courses at all levels of undergraduate work. The candidate would also our first-year composition courses, which share common elements but leave room to be designed around each teacher's interests. The position includes a teaching load of five courses per year, as well as serving as advisor for The Concordian, the college newspaper. The position also requires institutional service including mentoring journalism students, academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year, assisting the department and interdisciplinary programs in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation, and contributing to the Multimedia Journalism major. We seek candidates who are also pursuing an active scholarly agenda. Successful candidates will aspire to be part of a diverse community that affirms an abundance of identities, experiences, and perspectives in order to imagine, examine, and implement possibilities for individual and communal thriving both inside and outside of the Department of English. Department:
The Department of English at Concordia College is a dynamic program of nine faculty and has recently revised the requirements for the Literature and Writing majors based on the following goals: Read, Inquire, Empathize, Write, and Change the World. We are focused on using literature and writing to engage students at all levels, in the Core Curriculum as well as in our majors. We are a highly interdisciplinary department, coordinating classes and programs with Multimedia Journalism, Women's and Gender Studies, Pre-Law, Global Studies, Environmental Studies, the Offutt School of Business, Education, and more. Minimum Qualifications:
ABD status for a Ph.D. or MFA equivalent in journalism or creative writing Strong professional experience in the field of journalism, particularly print journalism Demonstrated experience teaching journalism classes Demonstrated experience teaching creative writing, particularly creative nonfiction Demonstrated experience teaching composition Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly, and creative activities Demonstrated potential to advise and mentor journalism students and advise a college newspaper Demonstrated commitment to scholarly excellence and willingness to serve on appropriate program, college, and university committees
Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) in journalism or creative writing, completed by the start of appointment Active publishing program Demonstrated potential to provide leadership for the program and form interdisciplinary partnerships Experience reporting in rural communities and/or a focus on creative nonfiction that centers the upper
