Film, Media, and Communications Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Film, Media, and Communications at Wheaton College is seeking applicants for a Professor of the Practice of Film and Digital Media, starting in Fall 2027. The successful candidate for this full-time teaching position will teach foundational courses in Film and Media Production as well as higher-level courses in their area of expertise. Candidates with experience in any of these areas are welcome to apply: filmmaking, video production, motion graphics, visual effects, virtual production, online short form video, or sound design. Wheaton's Film, Media, and Communications department consists of five full-time, student-centered faculty with expertise as scholars and practitioners. It is committed to creating an innovative, inclusive learning community that values combining theory, creative practice, and critical application in the fields of film, media, and communications. As a department focused on equity and supporting diversity within academia, we encourage applications from individuals who may have been historically excluded from Communications programs and from those who are strongly committed to diversifying the field through mentoring students.
Minimum Qualifications:
A MA with strong teaching or professional experience or MFA degree is required at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidates will have the ability to teach courses such as Production I, Production II, Digital Editing, and in subject areas that enhance student ability to succeed in creative industries, such as film, television, online video, and videogames. Compensation and Benefits To attract and retain the most talented individuals, Wheaton College maintains a flexible and competitive staff compensation and benefits program. When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources. The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $55K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired. Physical Demands The ability to transport, lift, assemble film and video production equipment.
