Special Education Certification Full Job Description Essential Functions:
1. Provides itinerant outreach services, based on a referral process, to students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing, including those with additional disabilities across Alaska's 53 school districts. 2. Provides consultative services to Alaskan school districts and their staff, students, and parents. 3. Observe students in educational settings for the purpose of providing/modeling evidencebased interventions and strategies for the development of functional and educational outcomes. 4. Engage in co-teaching lessons with the Alaska State School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ASDHH) Education staff and the rural remote student(s) attending class to establish best practices and recommendations for the ASDHH staff to implement with a written report and guide to be shared at the end of the school year. 5. Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g., IEP meetings, student observations, special education teachers, school psychologists, etc.) for the purpose of customizing training and support. 6. Coordinates a variety of activities for the purpose of delivering technical assistance services in compliance with agency policy and process.(e.g., Material development:planning handbook, visual aides of tech needed for both school sites, model lesson plan template, directory of resources, communication mode planning form with appendix of key terms and definitions, etc...: Interagency collaboration meetings; Trainings). 7. Provides, in multiple formats (written report, oral reports, audio and video clips, etc.), individualized educational recommendations for students with disabilities. 8. Completes student service, grant, and other reports within agency standards and agency-established timelines. 9. Accurately inputs required data into the SESA FileMaker Pro database to ensure timely agency compliance with state of Alaska program audit requirements. 10. Maintains files and records (confidential and non-confidential), compiling pertinent information in assigned area (e.g. IEP files, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of materials and complying with all agency, federal/state/ and district (when working on site) regulations. 11. Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g., district staff, other schools, state and federal agencies, students, general public, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties, and/or providing direction to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. 12. Provides special education instructional support and training, including evidence-based topical in-services and workshops to school personnel, parents, students, peers, and the community. 13. Assists school district staff in procuring specialized instructional materials and/or adapting available material/equipment. 14. Facilitates interagency collaboration with relevant stakeholders. 15. Actively participates in agency in-house trainings and professional development. 16. Utilizes and keeps abreast of technological developments in the field of deaf and hard of hearing. 17. Perform other agency and/or program-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in education for the deaf and hard of hearing K-12 with an emphasis in bilingual-bicultural education or a bachelor's degree with similar experience. 2. Minimum of three years of recent experience with learners who are deaf/hard-of-hearing and their families. 3. Experience in developing positive behavior support plans, visual supports, and programs to enhance communication skills. 4. Knowledge of current research and a range of educational practices in the field of deaf education. 5. Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills. 6. Ability to travel independently in rural/remote Alaska throughout the school year. 7. Current knowledge of assistive technology commonly used with students who are deaf/hard-of-hearing. 8. Ability to work under limited supervision following agency policy and practices. 9. Proficiency in American Sign Language. 10. Requirements met for Alaska State Department of Education Special Education Type A Certificate.
Core Activities:
1. Review student files prior to the site visit (as applicable). Communicate with site staff to plan TA. 2. Review travel schedule with site staff prior to visit: check local weather and obtain village agent and school phone numbers. 3. Complete ALL data fields related to student information, activities, communication logs, travel itineraries, and travel reimbursements. 4. Complete SSR or SDS within 10 working days of the site visit. Finalize activities in the database. 5. Provide resources and materials to sites as requested. Follow up and respond to email communication. 6. Submit timesheets prior to the last day of each month. 7. Attend In-house activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional experiences, knowledge, skills, and attributes such as: Alaskan education experience, especially in rural and remote schools. Experience with multi-district service systems, especially itinerant programs. Distance support strategies. Formal strategic planning, project planning, and implementation. Knowledge of general education programs. Consultative and collaborative services; presentation/teaching methods with adults. Cross-cultural awareness, especially living or traveling in rural and remote Alaskan communities. "Degree of fit" with the Agency's mission, organizational values, and culture.
Pay:
$55,547.00 - $81,686.00 per year
