Primary Purpose Integrate ʻāina-based education at Blanche Pope Elementary School in Waimānalo, leading weekly in-class sessions that foster ea and ʻike Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian cultural identity and knowledge) for haumāna in their school māla. The position is also responsible for bridging classroom learning into the home by creating and distributing themed educational kits that engage ʻohana in daily nohona Hawaiʻi practices. Essential Duties

• Deliver weekly, hands-on ʻāina-based instruction (māla, kilo, and food preparation) at Blanche Pope Elementary;
• Coordinate closely with classroom teachers and school staff to align weekly sessions with the school schedule and student needs;
• Maintain and further develop the existing school māla as a vibrant, safe, and productive "living classroom";
• Design, assemble, and distribute themed take-home kits for families;
• Create low-barrier, 10-20 minute home activities that empower haumāna to lead their ʻohana in practicing ʻike Hawaiʻi;
• Collect and maintain weekly haumāna reflections (journaling, storytelling) and monthly ʻohana feedback data;
• Comply with safety protocols for working with minors. Other Duties Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to:
• Maintain equipment and coordinate with school on site upkeep;
• Assist with purchasing, inventory management, and transport of program supplies, tools, and kit materials;
• Support broader organization events and workdays;
• Assist with program data collection, inputting and reporting. Work Hours
• Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm or otherwise determined by the supervisor;
• Position requires regular and reliable attendance;
• Some nights and weekends may be required. Working Conditions
• Work at Blanche Pope Elementary School and other partner field sites as needed;
• Travel in personal and/or company vehicle to and from program sites;
• Travel to neighbor islands for extended stays as needed. Equipment Use Personal and/or company vehicle, computer and/or lap top, printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, office and/or work cell phone/Bluetooth, camera, scientific equipment, gardening tools such as shovels, rakes, and weed whackers. • Must be physically fit and able to keep up with the student and teachers in sailing, gardening, hiking, and swimming;
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis;
• Must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions;
• Must be able to sit and work at a desk for an extended period of time. :
• Must exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards program participants, staff and administration via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence;
• Must possess strong communication skills;
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Qualification Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Education or equivalent;
• Must be able to deliver creative, engaging gardening activities and lessons that incorporate Hawaiian culture, values, and practices;
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Windows and Apple operating systems and iOS;
• Must be able to pass an FBI fingerprinting background check;
• Must have access to a vehicle, have a valid driver's license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least $100K in bodily injury liability per person and $25K in property damage liability.
• Familiarity with Native Hawaiian culture, traditions and practices;
• Some background in laboratory or field research;
• Experience in student or professional teaching in Mathematics and/or Science at the intermediate and pre algebra level.

Pay:

$40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
