Education Specialist - Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Military Museum City of Aurora - 4.1 Aurora, IL Job Details Part-time $22.48 an hour 3 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Dental insurance Tuition reimbursement Employee assistance program Vision insurance Gym membership Loan forgiveness Qualifications Museum experience Research Driver's License Associate's degree Full Job Description The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the part-time position of Education Specialist at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Military Museum in the Community Services Department. Under the direction of the museum director, the GAR Education Specialist will manage the museum's educational programs and camps. The Education Specialist will develop and prepare age-appropriate programs to present to visitors onsite and in schools. This position will also focus on growing the social media presence of the museum and promoting events. The duties of this position will include but are not limited to: Conduct research to develop educational programming about Aurora and the United States military; Plan, develop, and lead age-appropriate educational programs and camps for visitors onsite and in schools; Work with visiting schools to ensure the logistics and delivery of programming; Assist in the continuing improvement of existing programs; Promote the museum and events to the public utilizing social media, printed materials, and other methods; Assist with the daily operations and upkeep of the museum; Other duties as assigned. This position requires an associate's degree; bachelor's degree in American History, Museum Studies, or an education related field is preferred. This position also requires at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar role. Must possess a valid driver's license, the ability to travel to local schools, and the ability to obtain a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) Card. Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The position will work approximately 20 hours per week with regular hours mostly Wednesday through Saturday, between 8 am and 5 pm. Flexibility is required dependent on programming. Starting hourly wage is $22.48/hr. Non-Exempt Benefits The City of Aurora offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time and eligible part-time employees in accordance with the
