Teach Safe is seeking an Instructional Designer / Course Creator to develop engaging, effective online driver education courses. This role combines instructional design, curriculum writing, regulatory research, multimedia development, and hands-on course building. The Instructional Designer / Course Creator will take a course from requirements through launch: interpreting state curriculum requirements, mapping those requirements to course content, designing an effective instructional sequence, writing student-facing material, developing assessments and activities, participating in video content, and building the finished course within the Teach Safe platform. This position is ideal for someone who is both a strong writer and a creative, organized course builder—someone who can turn complex requirements into clear instruction that keeps students engaged and helps them learn. Key Responsibilities Course & Curriculum Development Research and interpret driver education curriculum requirements, statutes, administrative rules, and state-provided standards. Create curriculum maps connecting regulatory requirements and learning objectives to specific course content. Identify required topics, instructional time, assessments, activities, and other course components. Design the overall course structure and sequence to support effective learning and appropriate scaffolding. Determine how concepts should be introduced, reinforced, practiced, and assessed throughout a course. Ensure completed courses address all applicable curriculum and regulatory requirements. Content Writing & Instructional Design Write clear, accurate, age-appropriate student-facing instructional content. Translate technical topics, traffic laws, and regulatory language into understandable and engaging instruction. Develop learning objectives, lesson content, examples, scenarios, knowledge checks, quizzes, activities, and assessments. Apply instructional design principles to improve comprehension, retention, and learner engagement. Review and revise existing course content for clarity, accuracy, instructional effectiveness, and consistency. Incorporate feedback from subject matter experts, compliance staff, students, and other stakeholders. Multimedia & Video Development Determine when video, graphics, animation, scenarios, or other multimedia will improve instruction. Develop scripts and concepts for instructional videos. Work with other team members or vendors to develop and incorporate multimedia assets. Ensure multimedia supports the learning objective rather than simply adding visual interest. Course Building & Technology Build and configure courses within the Teach Safe online learning platform. Create lessons, pages, activities, assessments, navigation, and other course components. Upload and appropriately incorporate text, images, audio, video, and interactive content. Configure course settings and instructional flow to meet both educational and regulatory requirements. Test completed courses from the student's perspective and troubleshoot content, navigation, formatting, and usability issues. Become highly proficient with Teach Safe's course-building tools and adapt to new platform functionality as it is introduced. Quality & Continuous Improvement Proofread and quality-check course content before release. Verify that curriculum requirements are fully represented in the finished course. Maintain organized documentation of curriculum requirements, content mapping, sources, and course revisions. Update courses as laws, regulations, curriculum standards, or instructional best practices change. Use student performance, feedback, and other available data to identify opportunities to improve course effectiveness. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, Communications, English, or a related field. Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely. Strong understanding of instructional design, learning objectives, sequencing, scaffolding, assessment, and learner engagement. Ability to research detailed requirements and systematically translate them into course content. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. High level of comfort with technology and ability to quickly learn new software platforms. Comfortable presenting information and appearing on camera in instructional videos. Ability to manage a course-development project from initial requirements through completed implementation. Ability to accept feedback and collaboratively revise work. Preferred Experience developing online or asynchronous courses. Experience with learning management systems, course-authoring platforms, or other educational technology. Experience developing educational video or multimedia content. Familiarity with accessibility principles for online learning, including alt text, captions, audio/read-aloud content, and accessible content design. Experience working with regulated curriculum or translating statutes, administrative rules, standards, or other formal requirements into educational content. Knowledge of driver education, traffic safety, or transportation safety is helpful but not required. What Success Looks Like A successful Instructional Designer / Course Creator can receive a new driver education course assignment and independently move it from regulatory requirements → curriculum map → instructional structure → written and multimedia content → completed course build → quality review and launch. The end result is a course that is compliant, accurate, easy to understand, engaging for students, and instructionally sound.
