REPORTS TO
Building Principal The High School Drama Director is responsible for developing, directing, and maintaining a high-quality theatrical arts program that provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop skills in acting, directing, technical theater, stagecraft, communication, collaboration, creativity, and leadership.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Illinois PEL (Professional Educator's License) and an endorsement in Drama/Theater Arts for High School Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated knowledge of theater, drama, and performing arts. Commitment to providing an inclusive and student-centered program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach students fundamental and advanced skills in acting, improvisation, voice, movement, character development, script analysis, and theatrical performance. Provide opportunities for students to develop technical theater skills, including set design, construction, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, props, and stage management. Select appropriate theatrical productions in consultation with school administration. Direct rehearsals and performances in a professional and organized manner. Establish clear expectations for student participation, attendance, preparation, and conduct. Coordinate auditions, casting, callbacks, and rehearsal assignments. Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, competitions, trips, and theater-related activities. Coordinate technical production elements, including sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and stage management. Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and community partners. Promote a positive and inclusive theater culture. Perform other duties as assigned.
