Part-time Compensation:
$20-$25 per hour, based on experience Position Overview Laurissa Jane Music Performing Arts Program (LJMS) is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dependable Drama Teaching Artist to lead engaging performing arts classes for children at a contracted site in Locust Valley, New York. The ideal candidate will use theater and creative expression to help students build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop their creativity in a structured and supportive environment. Responsibilities Lead engaging and age-appropriate drama classes Teach acting fundamentals, improvisation, character development, movement, and stage presence Develop structured lesson plans and creative theater activities Prepare students for showcases and performances Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment Manage classroom behavior using positive and supportive strategies Adapt instruction to accommodate different ages, abilities, and learning needs Communicate consistently with LJMS leadership and contract-site staff Maintain reliable and punctual attendance Qualifications Experience teaching drama, theater, or performing arts to children Background in acting, directing, theater education, or a related field Strong classroom management and communication skills Patient, dependable, creative, and enthusiastic Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and program leadership Must be able to commute reliably to Locust Valley, NY Background check and required clearance documentation must be completed before starting Additional Opportunities Additional teaching, rehearsal, performance, and seasonal program opportunities may become available through LJMS based on program needs, experience, and availability.
