DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance and Director of Special Education, the District Driver transports special services students in accordance with established routes, time schedules and District policies and procedures. May pick-up and deliver mail to all District sites and/or provide support to Warehouse Worker, including driving a truck to deliver items to school sites. Participates in Professional Development opportunities offered by the District. View Job Description Requirements / Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Safe and defensive driving practices, and application of motor vehicle laws, proper operation of school vehicles sufficient to recognize problems and take appropriate action;
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record (Must present DMV Driving Record);
  • Operation of specially equipped vans and delivery truck;
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing in compliance with
VC 34520.3
prior to start date;
  • Pass medical exam using the same form as commercial driver performed prior to start date;
  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance requirements of automotive equipment;
  • State laws, rules and regulations, Education Code sections and California Vehicle Code applicable to driving a passenger van for student transport;
  • Basic first aid procedures;
  • Basic record-keeping techniques;
  • Principles, methods, practices and procedures required of this position;
  • Oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish; writing skills to develop workplace correspondence;
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, prioritize work, keep and maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

The letter of intent or Edjoin application shall be kept on file for the then current school year or until such time as the unit member retracts the letter of intent or Edjoin application, whichever occurs first.

Experience:
  • Six months experience as a bus driver, and/or one year of truck driving experience desirable.
  • Licenses/Certification/Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License (At least a Class C).
  • Must be insurable and maintain insurability by the District's insurance carrier(s).
  • Food Handlers Certificate, if applicable (to be completed within the first 30 days of employment).
  • Completion of Fork Lift training, if required (provided by District after employment).
Comments and Other Information Education and Training:
  • High School diploma; or the equivalent.
