Job Description

Do you love teaching, working with people, and getting your hands dirty? Bonsaify is looking for engaging, enthusiastic Bonsai Workshop Instructors to lead hands-on beginner classes and private workshops throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. You do not need previous bonsai experience to apply. We're looking first for great instructors: people who are comfortable leading a group, can explain and demonstrate something new in an approachable way, and genuinely enjoy helping people learn. An interest in plants, gardening, nature, or hands-on creative activities is strongly preferred. We'll teach you the bonsai part. Every new instructor will complete a paid Bonsaify training and apprenticeship program before leading workshops independently. You'll learn the bonsai techniques we teach, our workshop curriculum, plant care fundamentals, and how we guide beginners through creating their first bonsai. Our workshops are designed to be fun, welcoming, and hands-on. Participants arrive with different levels of experience, and many have never worked with a bonsai tree before. Your job is to help them leave with a tree they're proud of, the knowledge to care for it, and a great experience along the way. Responsibilities Lead beginner-friendly bonsai classes and workshops using Bonsaify's established curriculum and teaching approach Clearly explain and demonstrate each step of the workshop Provide individual guidance as participants work on their trees Create a welcoming, engaging environment where beginners feel comfortable asking questions and trying something new Manage the pace of the workshop so participants remain engaged without feeling rushed or left behind Learn to accurately identify the plant species used in workshops and communicate appropriate care instructions Learn and demonstrate fundamental techniques including pruning, wiring, styling, and potting Answer participant questions using Bonsaify's training and educational resources, and know when to refer more advanced questions to the Bonsaify team Represent Bonsaify professionally and enthusiastically at public, corporate, and private events Set up trees, tools, pots, soil, wire, and other materials before each workshop Maintain a safe and organized environment throughout the event Clean, organize, and pack workshop materials after every event Communicate participant feedback, supply needs, and event issues to the Bonsaify team Qualifications Previous experience teaching, training, facilitating workshops, leading groups, or providing hands-on instruction is strongly preferred Comfortable speaking, teaching, and demonstrating in front of groups Friendly, patient, engaging, and genuinely enjoys helping people learn Able to explain unfamiliar concepts in simple, approachable language Comfortable providing one-on-one assistance while continuing to manage the needs of the larger group Interest in plants, gardening, horticulture, nature, or other hands-on creative activities is strongly preferred Willing and excited to learn bonsai techniques and plant care Reliable, punctual, organized, and able to work independently Comfortable adapting to different groups, venues, and event environments Available for some evenings and weekends Able to stand and move around for the duration of a workshop Able to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to workshop locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area Previous bonsai experience is not required. Paid Training & Apprenticeship Every new instructor will complete paid training before leading a Bonsaify workshop independently.
Training will include:
Participating in a Bonsaify workshop from the student's perspective Learning the Bonsaify workshop curriculum and teaching approach Training in the plant care and bonsai techniques taught during our beginner workshops Learning the species commonly used in our classes and their care requirements Observing an experienced instructor Assisting with workshops and providing individual participant support Co-teaching portions of a workshop Demonstrating readiness to independently lead a safe, accurate, engaging class The goal isn't to turn you into a bonsai expert before you teach your first class. It's to give you the knowledge, practice, and confidence to deliver a consistently great Bonsaify experience. Who We're Looking For We want people who get energy from helping someone learn something new. You should be comfortable walking into a room of strangers, getting people engaged, demonstrating a hands-on skill, answering questions, and making sure everyone feels supported. If you're already an experienced instructor and you're the person who always stops to look at an interesting tree or plant, we'd especially like to hear from you. About Bonsaify Bonsaify is a family-owned bonsai nursery and ecommerce business based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We grow and develop bonsai trees, create handmade pottery, teach bonsai classes, and ship plants and supplies to customers throughout the United States.
