Exempt Scope of Job To serve as a key representative of the School of Medicine, strengthening relationships between the school of medicine and its community physician faculty. The position develops and maintains a structured community faculty engagement program that ensures community physician faculty are recognized, supported and engaged as essential members of the School of Medicine advancing the school's academic mission. Description of Duties Serves as a liaison between community physician faculty and the School of Medicine, facilitating communication, collaboration, engagement with the Graduate Medical Education/Designated Institution Official, Office of Educational Affairs, Office of Faculty Affairs, Office of Student Affairs, Dean's Office, and ISU/Department Chairs. Develops and implements an organized outreach plan for community faculty, including regular visits, follow-up communications, feedback collection, and escalation of issues or opportunities to appropriate school leadership. Fosters a culture where community faculty feel recognized, respected, and included as an important component of the School of Medicine. Keeps community faculty informed about new developments, priorities, programs, educational initiatives, and opportunities within the medical school. In collaboration with Departments, coordinates and supports community faculty lifecycle activities, including onboarding, appointment, renewal, orientation, specialized training, and maintenance of accurate engagement and compliance records. Regularly reports on the status of community faculty appointments, assigned teaching activities (clerkships, electives, resident education, and mentorship), faculty development participation, outreach and site visits, areas of interest, feedback and concerns, recognition activities, and community faculty engagement metrics. Collects and reports community faculty activity at least annually to support appointment renewal decisions, faculty sufficiency monitoring, accreditation readiness, and strategic planning. Collaborates with Department Chairs, Educational Affairs, Student Affairs, GME and other stakeholders to identify clinical education needs, faculty strengths, specialty-specific opportunities, and potential areas for growth. Ensures community faculty meet institutional policies and accreditation standards, applicable to the assigned school. Coordinates with GME and Educational Affairs to identify community faculty who may be able to support residency programs, serve as teaching faculty, assist with educational initiatives, or contribute to future GME development. Identifies community faculty who may be well suited to serve -as mentor for students or residents, participate in clerkships, support GME programs, or contribute to medical school initiatives. Develops and coordinates recognition initiatives that showcase community faculty contributions in teaching, mentorship, clinical service, leadership, and commitment to learners. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor. Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff. Required Education Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, higher education administration, public health, or a related field from an accredited university. Preferred Education Master's degree health administration, public health, business administration, marketing, education or related field from an accredited university. Licenses/Certifications None. Required Experience Four (4) years of related experience in academic medicine, graduate medical education, faculty affairs, physician relations, healthcare administration, or medical education. Preferred Experience Experience working in a medical school, teaching hospital or physician network. Experience working with community physicians and volunteer faculty. Equipment Use of standard office equipment. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Strong organizational skills to track faculty involvement, visits, interests, concerns, and potential areas for engagement. Ability to communicate medical school priorities clearly and to listen carefully to the needs and perspectives of community faculty. Reliability, follow-through, confidentiality, and commitment to service. Commitment to strengthening the academic partnership between the School of Medicine and its community faculty.
