Job Title:
Wrestling Cheer Sponsor Reports to: Athletic Director. Possibly Principal depending on sponsor.
Qualifications:
Do the rules meeting & concussion protocol for IHSAA. Have high moral character & a favorable example to young people. Preference could be given to school employee.
Job Goal:
To provide leadership, supervision, and organization to the specific athletic cheerleading sponsorship. To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to be effective cheerleaders. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Essential Responsibilities:
Year-Round Responsibilities Stay current with new ideas and techniques in the assigned cheer arena. Be knowledgeable of rules, regulations, and changes that occur. If interested in professional organizations such as the State Coaches Association, join and be as active as necessary. Responsible for general upkeep, protection, and storage of equipment and uniforms. Build good sportsmanship and develop positive public relations in the school and community. Follow fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques. Follow programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. Stay informed about health issues, first aid, and drug abuse. Before Season Responsibilities Schedule cheerleading tryouts for the following school year or season. Tryouts need to be fair and impartial while emphasizing athletic ability, cheerleading skills, leadership and character. (only if needed) Arrange any fundraising activities and have them approved by the principal. Make sure all uniforms are clean, wearable, and purchase any updates. Update/revise your program's curriculum and/or handbook as needed. In-Season Responsibilities Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis that align with local and state policies. Emphasize safety precautions while using accepted training/conditioning and injury procedures during practices and games. Supervise dressing rooms for proper use and clean up at any event. Lock-up facilities at the close of practice especially if they are the last group in the building. Arrange for transportation to each event when the squad does not ride the team bus. Accompanies student-athletes to and from all contests. Make sure all cheerleaders are accounted for on away trips. Keep the athletic director, or principal, informed of practice schedules during any holiday period. Attend any requested meetings by parents and/or Athletic Director and/or Principal. Coordinate any pep rallies as needed with the Athletic Director and/or Principal. End of Season Arrange for a systematic return of all school equipment/uniforms and hold the cheerleader responsible for all equipment/uniforms not returned. Have an inventory list of all equipment to give to the Athletic Director. Assist in the process of cleaning and storing of all equipment as directed by the Athletic Director. Have an evaluation meeting with the Athletic Director and/or Principal as needed. Recommend to Athletic Director and/or principal any improvements of facilities/equipment. Conduct the post-season awards banquet as needed.
