The Role:
The Director of Student - Athlete Academic Success Center develops and implements programs and services to facilitate academic advisement, academic achievement, retention, and graduation of student-athletes. This position provides undergraduate advising and counseling regarding CWU's general education curriculum, university requirements, as well as all the major degree programs and minor programs offered at CWU. In addition, provides interventions for students with academic alerts and provides additional support to students on warning and probation, or who are late to enroll in classes. The Director will work effectively with students, coaches, athletic administrators, faculty, and student services personnel. This position will ensure support to advance the priorities of the University and assist with implementing the relevant Strategic Plans and Core Values for the CWU Athletic Department. Athletic Support Employees directly affect the vision, mission, and values of Central Washington University by creating and promoting a welcoming environment where students, faculty, and staff feel supported. All employees are expected to uphold and contribute to CWU's vision, mission, and values, fostering a culture of student success and institutional excellence. Job Duties Program Advising for Student Athletes Proactively manage a caseload of athletic students, providing academic advising, timely intervention, and appropriate referrals, as necessary. Manage the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center. Assist with recruiting and new student-athlete summer orientation activities and coordinate the meetings prior to Fall Quarter. Assist with tutoring, advising coordination, and academic coaching. Provide outreach and support to students considered at risk both due to academic progress and NCAA rules. Refer students to other department advisors for assistance with degree and graduation planning while supporting all other advisors on campus. Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication with coaches, staff, and student-athletes. Help students to make informed academic decisions, use and interpret their Academic Requirements Report, progress efficiently towards degree completion, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and utilize the tools and resources available. Complete travel letters to coaches for student-athletes. Collaborate with Athletic Compliance Office and review pending eligibility status of prospective freshmen student-athletes with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Perform and determine all initial transfer evaluations progress/percentage toward degree eligibility. Determine if student-athletes are meeting standards for satisfactory academic progress towards a degree and provide a comprehensive evaluation of each student-athlete's admission, readmission, and eligibility status before each quarter to certify progress toward degree and assist with certifying rosters. Track student-athlete academic performance through meetings with coaches and monitor campus academic software. Conduct audits on student progress toward degree completion. Recommend appropriate academic course loads and course selections. Analyze, interpret, and explain student data, transcripts, and placement results, as well as university policy and procedures. Work with compliance for tracking all athletic related scholarship awards. Design and deliver presentations to various audiences. Develop strong working relationships with academic departments, programs, faculty, and staff across campus. Evaluation and Assessment Coordinate the development and implementation of data collection, analysis, and dissemination related to student athlete success. Provide coaches and department leadership with metrics surrounding performance, participation in services, possible eligibility issues, quarterly scheduling data, and other areas of concern. Identify students with varying learning styles and meet with them to develop an effective academic success plan. Create an annual report to be submitted to Athletic Director, donors, and other key stakeholders outlining key successes, current trends, and student-athlete success data. Collaborate with the registrar, Athletic Compliance office, and provide eligibility and progress toward degree data required for NCAA reports, including Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR), to the Athletic department. Supervision of staff Supervises work and professional development of graduate assistant, student employees, and student interns. Potential sports supervision. Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees. Clearly defines performance expectations, ensures accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts performance evaluations with graduate assistant. Ensure employees have necessary resources. Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues. Promotes professional development opportunities. Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement. Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community. Takes corrective action in a timely manner. Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance. Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests. Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results. May Instruct and Facilitation Develop and teach

for student athletes in conjunction with academic advising and the

coordinator. Work with other university departments to create new courses (i.e. Transfer Student version of
UNIV 101
) and appropriate workshops and programs to meet student-athlete needs. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Four years of professional experience working in a higher education setting and/or a bachelor¿s degree. Experience in working in higher education tutoring or academic advising. Excellent interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and listening skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff and faculty. Demonstrated ability in the use of Word, Excel, email and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, and receive and respond to email inquiries, tasks, etc. Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects. Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment. OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary :
The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $54,000 - 59,000 annually. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the full annual salary range for this position is $46,209 to $64,692.
Schedule/Appointment :
Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions :
Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
