The substitute teacher will implement lesson plans, support students' spiritual, social, emotional, and academic growth, and uphold the mission and values of St. Mary Catholic School. Job Description /
Essential Elements:
Print Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily instruction in all core subject areas, including religion, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Maintain continuity of instruction using established curriculum, lesson plans, and school guidelines.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and development.
  • Support students' preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in collaboration with parents, clergy, and school administration.
  • Integrate Catholic values and teachings into daily classroom activities and interactions.
  • Lead students in prayer, liturgical activities, and other faith-based experiences appropriate for elementary students.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, observations, and informal assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance as required by the school.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, administration, faculty, and staff regarding student progress and classroom matters.
  • Manage classroom behavior using positive discipline practices consistent with school policies.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, including recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, or other school activities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teachers and school staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student support.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as requested by administration.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students in accordance with school policies and procedures.
Requirements / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required. Valid teaching credential preferred.
  • Previous elementary teaching experience preferred, particularly in primary grades.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; candidates of other faith traditions who support the mission and values of Catholic education are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of child development and effective instructional practices for elementary students.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.
