Second grade builds the foundational fluency students need before the shift into more complex reading and math work in later grades. This teacher strengthens reading fluency and comprehension, foundational writing skills, and core addition, subtraction, and place value concepts, while maintaining clear expectations for behavior and work habits. The ideal candidate balances strong relationships with consistent accountability and maintains a classroom culture where students feel supported and challenged. Instructional coaching and collaborative planning support are provided.

www.mimmsad.org Key Responsibilities Deliver standards-aligned 2nd grade instruction in ELA, mathematics, science, and social studies using the school's adopted curricula: Collaborative Classroom (ELA), GoMath (mathematics), Mystery Science (science), and TCI (social studies) Strengthen reading fluency and comprehension, foundational writing skills, and core addition, subtraction, and place value concepts aligned to 2nd grade standards Use assessment data, including NWEA MAP and M-STEP results, to guide instruction and interventions Maintain structured classroom procedures and expectations appropriate for 2nd grade learners Communicate consistently with families Implement accommodations, intervention plans, and targeted reading support for students below grade-level benchmarks Participate in coaching cycles and team collaboration Maintain accurate records for grading and attendance Administer district and state assessments, including M-STEP Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of 2nd grade curriculum, standards, and developmental needs Strong foundation in early literacy and reading instruction Ability to analyze assessment data and adjust instruction Strong classroom management rooted in consistency and fairness Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining academic expectations Strong organizational and communication skills Experience with Collaborative Classroom, GoMath, Mystery Science, or TCI is a plus Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary endorsement required Two or more years of teaching experience preferred Demonstrated classroom management and instructional effectiveness Candidates must hold valid Michigan certification prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
