English Description:

The Department of English in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenured scholar of Rhetoric and/or Writing Studies of national distinction and promise at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to hold the Paul and Carol Daube Sutton Chair in English with a target start date of August 16, 2027. We seek a highly productive scholar of rhetoric, writing, or literacy studies with a national/international reputation. We are especially interested in a scholar whose work will attract undergraduate and graduate students and foster a culture of collaboration between faculty and students. The field of specialization is open, though we especially welcome applicants who conduct theoretical and/or historical research; study cultural, environmental, or civic rhetorics; or work in any area of writing and literacy studies. The successful candidate will contribute to our vibrant and growing Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric and writing and mentoring emerging scholars in a welcoming academic environment. The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment with a 1:1 teaching load while holding the Endowed Chair. Salary is commensurate with expertise and experience. The endowment provides annual research and travel funding.

Requirements:

A PhD in Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Communication Studies, or equivalent field. Tenure at current institution and significant academic experience. Two scholarly books published by nationally recognized presses or a negotiable equivalent of two books (e.g., approximately 20 or more peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals or sustained evidence of peer-reviewed, high-impact community-engaged or digital scholarship). The ideal candidate will have a record of national awards or fellowships and demonstrate successful, ongoing student mentorship.
