Job Summary:
The Director of Advising is charged with the management of CNCC's advising, career, and transfer services. The Director, under the supervision of the Dean of Enrollment Services, provides holistic advising to students for their academic, career, and transfer success at CNCC and beyond. This includes managing and implementing various processes and policies that affect student retention at CNCC. The Director will serve as a coordinator for the assignment of academic accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) under the direction of the college's ADA/Section 504/Title II Coordinator. The Director shall adhere to and uphold the requirements for the following federal, state, and national organizations: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Ensures students have the right to an accessible education regarding academics and housing. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Ensures the protection and privacy of students' education records. This affords students and parents/guardians/partners certain rights in this regard. Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • CNCC's accrediting body that ensures the institution provides a quality education to students based on its established criteria.
Criterion 3 is most relevant to this position's responsibilities. In addition to the primary duties outlined below, the Director of Advising will perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Enrollment Services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Management of Advising Department:
  • Act as a primary expert in EAB Navigate 360 functionality and training.
  • Coordinate the assignment of academic accommodations under the guidance of the college's ADA/Section 504/Title II Coordinator.
  • Manage the assignment and reassignment processes for Professional, Faculty, and Concurrent Enrollment Advisors.
  • Oversee the Progress Reports process for grade checks at designated intervals (weeks 3, 6, 9, and 12).
  • Implement advisor training programs for Professional, Faculty, and Concurrent Enrollment advisors each semester.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Academic Affairs to manage program rollouts and advising tools for staff.
  • Develop and execute registration communication campaigns to enhance student enrollment at CNCC.
  • Maintain a reduced caseload of advisees, assisting them with course registration and navigating college resources.
  • Attend monthly CCCS Accessibility/Disability Services and Advising meetings. Management of Career and Transfer Services and First Year Experience (FYE):
  • Organize an annual career fair in collaboration with local employers and Colorado organizations.
  • Host a yearly transfer fair in partnership with local universities and 4-year institutions in Colorado.
  • Create events highlighting various career opportunities with experts from CNCC and the surrounding community.
  • Maintain transfer policy information on the CNCC website, College Catalog, and provide regular updates to advisors.
  • Attend monthly CCCS Career Services and Transfer Services meetings.
  • Collaborate with FYE Coordinators to develop and implement programming on both the Rangely Campus and Craig location.
Supervision of the
Advising & Retention Specialists:
  • Assign advisees according to appropriate programs.
  • Provide vision and direction for continuous improvement in the advising process at CNCC.
  • Collaborate with advisors to continuously develop and refine the Advising Manual for CNCC.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations with goal setting for staff.
Administrative and Budget Management:
  • Work with various departments to manage budgets effectively.
  • Stay informed about CNCC-supported Student Affairs business processes and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Title IV, FERPA, FACTA, COF, and Course to Program of Study.
  • Implement a training strategy to keep staff updated on technology changes and improvements.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of departmental staff.
Other Duties as
Assigned:
  • Serve as a key member of the Enrollment Management Committee, reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competencies/KSAs:
Working knowledge of student development theory. Excellent supervisory management and leadership skills. Knowledge of employment trends related to majors and course of student options. Ability to assess stakeholder needs and develop training materials to support them. Experience using Ellucian Banner, Recruit CRM., and DegreeWorks. Experience working in a multi-college system is preferred but not required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with System, college, and external departments and people. Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing. Ability to listen to stakeholders, document their needs, and develop clear solutions. Self-starter with a positive attitude and ability to succeed with limited oversight. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, integrity, and ethical behavior. Proficient in using Microsoft applications. Positive attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field from accredited College or University 3-5 years of experience in higher education that includes increasing responsibility 2-4 years of leadership/supervision experience
