Albert Hayle, Athletic Director Position Summary The Athletics Office Student Assistant is an entry-level student employment position supporting the daily administrative and clerical operations of the RCC Athletics Department. Students provide routine office, reception, records, document, and customer-service support under the direction of Athletics staff. Scope of Student Role Athletics Office Student Assistants provide routine clerical, administrative, reception, and customer-service support. Student employees do not independently make eligibility determinations, interpret institutional or Athletics policy, approve records or transactions, provide professional advising, or make decisions reserved for Athletics administrators or other authorized RCC staff. Federal Work-Study Responsibilities Greet visitors and provide approved information about Athletics office hours, contacts, and services. Answer routine telephone inquiries, take messages, and route questions to Athletics staff. Perform filing, scanning, copying, data entry, document preparation, and organization of office materials. Maintain schedules, contact lists, forms, and supply inventories as directed. Assist with weekday on-campus preparation of team or event materials. Do not make eligibility, roster, travel, purchasing, scheduling, or student-athlete decisions and do not perform off-campus Learn & Earn duties. Federal Work-Study Eligibility Currently enrolled at Roxbury Community College for the 2026-2027 academic year. Have an active Federal Work-Study award and sufficient remaining FWS eligibility before beginning work. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in accordance with institutional and financial-aid requirements. Complete all required student-employment and payroll documentation before beginning work. Work only the approved FWS schedule and duties assigned by the designated RCC supervisor.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications Must be currently enrolled at RCC and meet the eligibility requirements for the assigned student employment funding source. Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills. Ability to multitask and follow directions in an active office environment. Basic computer and office-technology skills or willingness to learn required systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment with student and departmental information. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to maintain an assigned work schedule. Ability to work independently on structured assignments and collaboratively with Athletics staff. Ability to lift and move at least 10 pounds when required for assigned office-support tasks.
Additional Information:
Federal Work-Study Compliance Notes This FWS assignment is part-time, on-campus student employment and is contingent upon continued Federal Work-Study eligibility and available award funding. FWS students may perform only the duties identified for the FWS assignment and approved by the supervisor; Learn & Earn responsibilities are not interchangeable with FWS duties. Students and supervisors are responsible for monitoring scheduled hours so the student does not exceed the approved FWS award or institutional work-hour limits. Timesheets must accurately reflect hours actually worked and be approved by the designated supervisor through the College's approved timekeeping process. Student Learning & Professional Development Outcomes Develop foundational administrative and office-support skills. Strengthen professional communication and customer-service skills. Build experience with document organization, basic data entry, records support, and office technology. Develop time-management, reliability, teamwork, and workplace professionalism. Gain exposure to Athletics administration and higher-education operations. Funding & Scheduling Structure 2 Federal Work-Study placement(s) are authorized for this role. Work is limited to the approved Federal Work-Study duties and schedule. The position is subject to the student's available FWS award and RCC student-employment work-hour limits, with a maximum of 18.5 hours per week. Supervision & Performance The Athletics Office Student Assistant reports to Albert Hayle, Athletic Director, or designated Athletics staff. Students receive training on office procedures, confidentiality, customer service, assigned systems, role boundaries, and department expectations, along with ongoing supervision and feedback. Advancement Strong performers may become candidates for future intermediate administrative, Athletics operations, event-support, student-services, or project-support positions when available.
