Job Description

Description SUMMARY and PURPOSE:
The Desk Attendant (DA) plays a key role in maintaining a welcoming, safe, and organized environment for residents, guests, and staff at Jackson Colleges residence halls. This position is responsible for monitoring building access, assisting residents, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring adherence to residence hall policies. The DA serves as the first point of contact for students and visitors, providing excellent customer service while upholding community standards. Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(other duties may be assigned) Maintain a professional and welcoming presence at the front desk at all times. Ensure the safety and security of residents by monitoring access and enforcing guest policies. Respond promptly to resident inquiries and concerns, directing them to appropriate resources when necessary. Document incidents, maintenance requests, and any policy violations accurately and in a timely manner. Assist with administrative tasks such as supply management, submitting service requests, and maintaining desk records. Support residence life programming by promoting events and initiatives to enhance student engagement. Uphold and enforce college policies, reporting concerns to residence life staff as needed Collaborate with other campus departments to provide seamless service to students and guests. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Residence Life.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Resident Support Greet and assist residents, guests, and visitors in a professional and friendly manner. Answer inquiries regarding residence hall policies, campus resources, and general information. Provide directions and assist students with concerns or maintenance requests. Serve as a resource for emergency situations, following proper protocols and notifying appropriate personnel when needed. Building Security & Access Control Monitor building entrances to ensure only authorized individuals enter. Enforce residence hall guest policies, including checking IDs and maintaining visitor logs. Report any suspicious activity, policy violations, or safety concerns to appropriate staff. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, work orders, and supply checkouts. Answer phone calls, take messages, and assist with scheduling appointments as needed. Assist with communication of residence hall events and important notices. Community Engagement & Policy Enforcement Support residence life programming and student engagement initiatives. Help enforce residence hall policies and address concerns in a respectful manner. Promote a positive and community-oriented environment. Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Current Jackson College students 2.0 GPA minimum Must live on campus -Must be eligible for a Federal Work Study Award from Financial Aid Previous customer service, administrative, or security experience is a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations. Basic computer proficiency, including email and office software. Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks such as lifting packages.
Minimum Qualifications:
Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits during time of employment Must have an accumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Work Schedule:
Shifts vary and may include evening, overnight, and weekend hours. Must be flexible and available during peak times such as move-in/move-out periods.
