Founded in 1999, the North American Hockey Academy seeks to provide excellent academic instruction and athletic coaching for a select group of 40 high school girls chosen from across the United States and Canada. We offer our students the opportunity to realize their intellectual and athletic potential by providing tutorial-based low student teacher ratio courses and an extensive schedule of hockey games against the top competition available in North America. Our college preparatory curriculum is designed to meet the entrance requirements of competitive American and Canadian colleges, and we offer a selection of Advanced Placement courses. Our list of Approved Core Courses from the NCAA Clearinghouse exceeds 100. Many of our highly experienced teachers hold advanced degrees in their subject areas. Our goal at NAHA is to match our student-athletes with the colleges that are best suited to them on an academic and athletic basis, many with scholarships to Division I colleges. We have a 100% placement record to date. NAHA students have gone on to learn and compete at some three dozen institutions, including Amherst, Colgate, Dartmouth, Harvard, Middlebury, Minnesota, Brown, Cornell, Wisconsin and Yale, Boston College. We stress the importance of hard work, personal responsibility and teamwork and our student athletes often assume positions of leadership within their college programs. The North American Hockey Academy's core program is the High School Hockey Academy which operates from early October to the first week of March. It follows the ski-academy model where the athletes are at NAHA only for the competitive season. The girls begin their classes at their home schools and transition to NAHA's Academic program in early October. Classes will be held in Ashland, Massachusetts at the beautiful CATS Academy in Braintree, MA from 1:30pm to 6:15pm Monday through Thursday. All of these elite athletes follow their home school's curriculum until they return after NAHA's competitive season to finish the school year back in their home schools. NAHA opened its doors in the fall of 1999 to its first class of 14 students. Since then, NAHA has had two teams, 35-40 athletes in total each year.
