Job Title Economic Literacy Instructor (Skills-to-Assets 2026) Company The Forigin Initiative Location Detroit, MI 48224 (on-site at partner schools) Job Type Part-time / Contract — Fall and Spring 2026 semesters Schedule 2 hours per session, 4 to 6 hours per week Pay $35.00 per hour Job Description The Forigin Initiative is a Detroit-based nonprofit working to economically empower the next generation. Our Skills-to-Assets program brings economic and financial literacy directly into classrooms across Detroit, teaching young people how money, ownership, and opportunity actually work. We are hiring an Economic Literacy Instructor to deliver our Skills-to-Assets curriculum to middle and high school cohorts during the Fall and Spring 2026 semesters. This is a hands-on teaching role for someone who can make complex financial concepts clear, relevant, and engaging for students in grades 6 through 12. What You'll Do Facilitate Skills-to-Assets sessions at partner schools across Detroit, following our multi-week curriculum Lead discussion-based and project-based lessons on personal finance, entrepreneurship, and core economic concepts Adapt instruction to meet students where they are, keeping material culturally relevant and grounded in real life Manage classroom environment and build strong rapport with students, school staff, and program partners Track student participation and progress, and share feedback with the Forigin program team Support curriculum refinement based on what works in the room Schedule Sessions run 2 hours each, after school, during the Fall and Spring 2026 semesters. Depending on site placement, instructors will teach either: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (6 hours per week), or Monday and Thursday (4 hours per week) Instructors may be assigned to more than one site. Exact times are set with each partner school ahead of the semester. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field (preferred) Minimum 2 to 3 years teaching, mentoring, or facilitating workshops for youth (grades 6-12 or college level) Experience designing or implementing curriculum in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, or personal finance Strong understanding of core economic and financial concepts Proven ability to explain complex financial topics in simple, engaging, culturally relevant ways Excellent classroom management, communication, and group facilitation skills Knowledge of project-based learning, discussion-based teaching, and youth-centered engagement methods Competency in digital literacy including Google Workspace, Excel, and educational platforms such as Kahoot and Canva Reliable transportation and consistent weekday afternoon availability for on-site sessions across Detroit Must pass a background check Why Forigin You'll join a growing Detroit organization doing work that shows up in real classrooms with real students.
