Spanish Location Hillsdale, Michigan Open Date Aug 26, 2026 Deadline Oct 02, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description The Department of Spanish at Hillsdale College seeks applicants for one open-rank tenure-track position to commence August 2027. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment. Applicants from any field of Iberian or Latin American literature, culture or linguistics are welcome to apply, but special attention will be given to candidates with interest and experience in the teaching of advanced grammar and writing. All candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching language and literature at all undergraduate levels, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English, evidence of scholarly potential, and an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Hillsdale College. All courses are taught in the target language. Hillsdale College is a small (1500 students), fiercely independent Christian liberal arts college dedicated to the perpetuation of freedom through serious learning and moral formation. It is committed to the Western intellectual tradition and requires genuine excellence in undergraduate teaching. Send a letter of application that presents (a) evidence of strong undergraduate teaching skills, (b) a discussion of the philosophy behind such teaching, and (c) a detailed response to the Hillsdale College Mission Statement that includes a discussion of the candidate's ability to teach in light of the College's commitments. Qualifications Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment. Applicants must also include two separate documents: a) a statement of teaching philosophy and professional goals; and b) a detailed response to the College's Mission Statement (see www.hillsdale.edu/about/mission/ ) that includes a discussion of the candidate's ability to teach in the light of its commitments. The application must also include a curriculum vitae, three up-to-date, confidential letters of recommendation, and graduate transcripts. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
