Position Summary:
Provides library services for children ages birth through grade 5, including storytimes and other programs. Responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs; providing reference, readers' advisory, and computer assistance, database and referral services to Library patrons. Performs responsibilities professionally and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Library District.
Job Duties:
Provide in house and off-site story times as assigned by the Children's Services Manager and/or Assistant Manager Provide reference, readers' advisory and computer assistance to patrons in person, on the telephone, or electronically using print and digital resources Instruct and assist patrons in the use of the library catalog, self-checkout stations, databases, Internet, e-readers, tablets, and smartphones Plan, implement and host programs and events both on site and off site Partner with local schools, daycares, and preschools for literacy programming Assist with collection development and analysis of collection and program statistics Assist with the bookmobile and related outreach as assigned May create reports, surveys, manuals and other informational and training documents Plan displays and bibliographies to promote collections Collect data for statistical analysis and reports Understand and enforce the Library's policies and procedures while safeguarding confidential and restricted information Work collaboratively with other departments Participate in professional development by attending appropriate conferences, meetings, workshops and seminars in order to maintain current expertise in appropriate areas Participate in library meetings and serve on library and/or community committees as assigned Develop community contacts as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
MLS from an accredited library school required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' library experience desired. Applicable experience will be considered.
Required Skills:
Library Ability to work with efficiency, skill, accuracy, and appropriate speed Knowledge of and ability to carry out policies and procedures Knowledge of children's materials and ability to promote materials/services Knowledge of trends in reference, readers' services, programming, and technology Communication Ability to work collaboratively as a member of team Contribute to website content and newsletter to promote services Adapt communication style/approach with visitors depending on circumstances Customer Service Use good judgment following procedures in support of library policies Ability to empathize and relate to patron needs, exploring beyond the initial question to determine the actual information desired Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public and staff Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm, capable manner
Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements include:
speaking, hearing, vision and keyboarding ability sufficient to adequately perform the job, and the ability to push and pull up to 200 pounds and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Job Requirements:
Work is performed in a typical library environment. Will require some weekend and evening work. Must have valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance or have the ability to arrange own transportation in order to work required schedule.
