Library Services & Instructional Technology Librarian Position Purpose:
The Library Services & Instructional Technology Librarian provides professional library services that support the teaching, learning, and research mission of Hiram College. The position provides reference and research assistance, supports library access and user services, assists with library technology and electronic-resource access, and leads or contributes to projects that improve library services, operations, and the user experience. The position also administers and supports the College's Moodle learning management system and provides training and assistance to faculty and other campus users. The successful candidate will bring professional library experience and the ability and interest to learn and support instructional technologies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Oversee library access services, including circulation, user accounts, course reserves, holds, equipment, and related patron services. Oversee processes for overdue, lost, missing, and damaged materials and work with patrons and library staff to resolve related issues. Provide welcoming and responsive reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. Participate in information literacy initiatives, library instruction, and faculty support as appropriate. Lead or contribute to major library projects and initiatives based on the priorities and needs of the Library, including service improvements, accessibility initiatives, and the evaluation and reduction of the Library's Federal Depository Library Program collection. Provide training and guidance to student employees working on defined library projects within the position's areas of responsibility. Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, guides, and other resources that improve library services and user support. Provide assistance with routine electronic-resource access and troubleshooting, escalating more complex issues to the Director or appropriate vendor or technical support. Administer and support the College's Moodle learning management system, providing timely assistance and troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students. Provide training and consultation to faculty and other campus users on Moodle and related instructional technologies. Collaborate with Information Technology and other campus partners to support effective, accessible, and user-friendly online learning environments. Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Skills & Knowledge Strong reference, research, and information-literacy skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project-management skills. Ability to learn and effectively use library systems, electronic resources, learning management systems, and other technologies. Ability to work collaboratively and independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and prioritize effectively. Commitment to student-centered service and the educational mission of a liberal arts college. Experience Experience providing reference and research assistance in an academic library environment. Experience providing library instruction, information literacy instruction, or faculty support preferred. Experience with library technology and information systems; experience with Alma preferred. Experience with circulation, access services, or other patron-facing library services preferred. Experience with Moodle or another learning management system preferred. Experience with electronic resources or troubleshooting access to digital library resources preferred. Education Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS, MLS, or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.
