$75,096 minimum starting salary Actual starting salary depends on education and relevant experience. Job Description The Chesapeake Public Library ( CPL ) is seeking a dynamic library manager with a passion for public service to lead and manage a unique community library, in a safe city with great schools and a responsive, caring library staff. The Library Manager will actively and enthusiastically develop, manage, and plan library operations, as well as evaluate and implement programs for the assigned library. Responsible for developing, planning, and implementing programs, gathering and evaluating data for improvements, preparing reports, supervising and evaluating subordinate staff, and promoting the library. Plans, organizes, and implements programs and system-wide projects within major organizational policies; reports progress of major activities to Library Administration. Develops and manages the library operations in an area library or assigned area. Hires, trains, assigns, supervises, and evaluates subordinate staff. Provides exceptional customer service in areas of circulation and information services using library resources. Resolves patron and staff complaints, problems, and conflicts, and assures customer satisfaction. Promotes the library through public relations outreach. Monitors budget allocations. Prepares and maintains various reports and records. Monitors use of library equipment, building and grounds to ensure safety. Troubleshoots equipment problems. Attends or conducts staff meetings to exchange information and implement strategic plan; attends in-service training and professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills. Performs related tasks as necessary, such as recommending policies, developing procedures, selecting materials to integrate into the collection, and serving on library committees. The library manager will organize and direct the work of a group of professional and paraprofessional subordinates, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
: Requires an American Library Association accredited master's degree in library science.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of four years of related, full-time library experience, including three years of supervisory experience. Public professional Librarian experience is preferred.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Virginia Public Librarian Certificate within three months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications Public library experience preferred but other library experience considered.
