Job Description

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE
Applicants for employment and volunteer opportunities should be aware of the City of Sierra Vista's policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol. These policies have not been altered by the passage of proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy. All positions within the City are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. Definition :
Under general supervision, provides services to library patrons.
FLSA status:
Non-Exempt.
Essential Functions :
Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge's, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is
ILLUSTRATIVE
ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Tasks Registers library borrowers. Checks in and out library materials and shelves items as needed. Assists the public in the use of eBooks, the on-line card catalog, as well as other basic computer functions such as email and Microsoft WORD. Reserves, renews and helps patrons checkout materials. Answers multi-line phone and directs calls as needed. Provides simple reference assistance and has knowledge of libraries and books. Refers all moderate reference questions to a librarian. Performs various off-desk duties as assigned such as book repair or assisting library staff with programs. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Leisure and Library Services. CHARACTERISTICS
Excellent customer service skills Ability to follow written and oral instructions Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure Ability to accurately and quickly attend to detailed work Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Physical ability to operate equipment including copiers, computers and telephones; to shelve books; to lift and stand/ sit for extended periods of time. Visual ability to read and write reports and to use normal office equipment. Hearing ability sufficient to understand and hold conversations with patrons in person and over the phone. Moderate to excellent computer skills, including use of the internet, email, and basic software applications. Proficient keyboarding skills. Ability to tutor library patron in eBooks, the online catalog, and other technological applications. Ability to research reference questions. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Customer service or clerical experience in a service or library capacity preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
