33408 ALA accredited Masters required: No While a Library Assistant may work in many areas of the library, this position focuses primarily on serving children and teens. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and teens and wants to help foster a love of reading and learning through creative programs, book displays, and positive everyday experiences at the library. Scheduled hours will include working an average of three weekday shifts from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing this position to support youth patrons during some of the library's busiest after-school and weekend hours. Essential Functions
Checks in and checks out library materials, issues library cards, collects fines and carries out other duties associated with the service desk function.
Inputs data into computer terminal and prints reports, lists and other documents.
Performs general office duties, such as word processing, recordkeeping, report writing, receiving and verifying shipments, inventory maintenance, etc.
Locates, arranges, sorts, shelves and distributes library books, periodicals and other materials and makes minor repairs as necessary.
Responds to inquiries from the general public, providing assistance with retrieval and location of information to include electronic database searching.
Operates and makes minor adjustments to various types of library and office equipment.
Performs tasks affiliated with cataloging operations, collection management and inter-library loans.
Assists in establishing, organizing and presenting programs and events within the library as well as externally in the community.
Assists in updating and monitoring the library's website and social media presence and in creating and designing promotional materials such as displays, flyers, etc.
Prepares monetary deposits of daily collections.
Assists in developing and implementing procedures related to assigned library section(s).
Assists in training and supervising library volunteers.
Works collaboratively with colleagues to support the library's goals and objectives as well as those of the Village.
Assumes full oversight and administration of the library service desk, as needed.

Education/Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED supplemented with college coursework (Associate degree highly recommended).
Minimum of two (2) years of clerical work experience in a public setting, with preference for at least one year of firsthand experience performing library/media functions.
Knowledge of modern library practices, procedures and services.
Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse groups and conduct oneself in the best interests of library patrons, while interacting in a respectful and customer-oriented manner.
Knowledge of current technology and software applications appropriate to the assigned responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in daily work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, kneeling and walking. Work does involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (at least 20 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in normal office conditions with infrequent exposure to adverse environmental factors.
