Job Description

Description The Hampton University William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library invites applications for the position of Library Assistant
  • Circulation (Evenings). The position follows the following schedule during fall and spring semesters
  • Sunday
  • Thursday 4pm-1am.
Schedule is subject to change between semesters and during the summer. Examples of Duties This position will assist with providing circulation services to library patrons.
Additional responsibilities include the following:
Check in and out circulating and reserve materials. Staff the circulation and other library customer service desks. Works with patrons in solving problems relating to circulation policies and procedures. Processes fines and assists in preparing circulation reports. Performs opening procedures and closing procedures within the library. Assists in maintenance of library stacks. Assists in the training and supervision of student workers. Records statistics as necessary. Participate in library committees and project teams. Perform other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications An Associate's degree is highly preferred.
Additional qualifications include the following:
At least 1 year working in a library setting is preferred. Customer service experience is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to learn the use of new technology. Willingness to engage students in the learning process.
