Southern Preparatory Academy is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Mathematics Teacher to join our academic team. Depending on Applicant's skills and experience, this role could cover a range of essential courses, including 7th/8th grade Math, Algebra I, Algebra II, and/or Geometry. We are looking for an educator who can demystify complex concepts and build the logical foundation students need for advanced STEM fields and real-world problem-solving. In keeping with the Academy's goals, the successful candidate will develop young men and women of character and leadership by emphasizing discipline, persistence, and intellectual rigor. The ideal candidate will prepare students for success in honors courses while fostering a "growth mindset" regarding mathematical ability. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction
Develop and implement lesson plans that emphasize both procedural fluency and conceptual understanding of mathematical principles.
Teach essential skills
Incorporate technology and visual aids—such as graphing calculators and dynamic geometry software—to help students visualize abstract concepts.
Differentiate instruction to support students at varying levels of math proficiency, providing both foundational remediation and advanced acceleration.
Foster a classroom environment where mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities and students are encouraged to explain their mathematical reasoning. Student Support & Classroom Environment
Establish a positive, structured classroom culture that supports academic focus and personal growth, aligned with the Academy's military-style structure.
Maintain high expectations for student effort and accuracy, reinforcing the importance of precision and attention to detail.
Provide individualized support, including targeted tutoring and enrichment, to ensure every student meets or exceeds grade-level standards.
Collaborate with academic and residential life staff to monitor student performance and provide holistic support. Professional Collaboration & Growth
Participate in regular faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide events.
Communicate proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, assessment results, and areas for improvement.
Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives, such as collaborating with the Science or Computer Technology departments to show the practical application of math.
Support the Academy's mission by modeling integrity, professionalism, and a disciplined approach to lifelong learning.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
Strong content knowledge across the secondary math spectrum (Algebra through Geometry).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to break down complex formulas into logical, digestible steps.
Resilience and patience when working with students who may find mathematics challenging.
A completed apprenticeship or previous teaching experience is recommended.
Preferred:
Teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels.
Familiarity with standardized test preparation (e.g., ACT/SAT math strategies).
Willingness to support extracurricular activities, such as a math competition team, chess club, or athletic coaching.
Pay:
$38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
