This position requires someone who is dependable, patient, creative, organized, and able to take strong ownership of the classroom. Job Responsibilities Homework & Academic Support Provide a designated homework time each day. Assist children with homework, reading, studying, and school assignments as needed. Encourage children to complete their work independently while providing appropriate support. Maintain a quiet and organized environment during homework time. Lesson Planning & Activities Create and follow weekly after-school lesson plans. Plan creative, age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, STEM, games, reading, cooking projects, outdoor activities, and group experiences. Keep children actively engaged and provide a balance of learning, recreation, and free-choice activities. Classroom Management Follow the classroom's daily schedule and routines. Demonstrate strong leadership and maintain control of the classroom in a positive and respectful manner. Be patient and consistent when redirecting children's behavior. Maintain active supervision and know where children are at all times. Encourage children to respect teachers, classmates, classroom materials, and the facility. Take ownership of the classroom and address concerns instead of waiting for someone else to handle them. Organization & Multitasking Be able to successfully multitask while supervising children, assisting with homework, preparing activities, communicating with families, and maintaining the classroom. Keep classroom supplies, children's belongings, and activity materials organized. Prepare materials ahead of time so activities and transitions run smoothly. Communicate effectively with management and other teachers. Cleaning & Building Maintenance Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized classroom throughout the shift. Wipe down tables, counters, and frequently used areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, take out trash, and replace trash bags as assigned. Clean up immediately after meals, snacks, crafts, and activities. Help maintain common areas of the building as assigned. Before leaving, make sure the classroom and assigned areas are properly closed, cleaned, organized, and ready for the next day. Teacher Expectations The ideal After-School Teacher will be patient, dependable, creative, flexible, energetic, and a strong leader. The teacher must be willing to take initiative, work as part of a team, multitask, follow directions and schedules, and create an environment where children feel safe, supported, respected, and excited to participate. At The Right Choice Academy, every teacher is expected to take pride and ownership in their classroom and contribute to the cleanliness, safety, organization, and overall success of the center.
