Full Job Description Part-Time Middle School Technology Teacher Schedule:

8-12 periods per week, afternoons

Grades:

6-8 About the Role We're looking for a part-time Technology Teacher to lead engaging, hands-on classes for our middle school students. This role is ideal for someone who loves helping students build real-world digital skills through creative, project-based learning rather than lectures and worksheets. What You'll Teach Coding — Scratch-based game design and animation, with exposure to text-based coding (e.g., Khan Academy JS) Google Workspace — Sheets (formulas, charts, scatterplots), Slides, Docs, Drive/Classroom workflows AI literacy — responsible, effective use of AI tools for research and creative work Podcasting — planning, recording, and editing using tools like Podcastle Video production — storyboarding, filming, and editing (e.g., WeVideo) 3D design — modeling and printing with Tinkercad Digital citizenship — evaluating website credibility, digital footprint, online safety Independent research — an extended, student-driven inquiry project, including research skills, tracking findings, and presenting final work Optional/rotating topics depending on interest and time: robotics kits (e.g., Hummingbird), basic web design, digital image editing Teaching Approach Classes should be primarily project-based : students build a portfolio of real work (games, podcasts, videos, 3D models, research projects) rather than completing isolated exercises. Units are typically structured around a final product or presentation, often built up over multiple class periods, with students sharing/presenting their work to peers. We're looking for someone comfortable designing multi-week units, scaffolding new tools quickly, and adjusting pacing to the class. Qualifications Experience teaching or mentoring middle-school-aged students (classroom, camp, or club settings all count) Comfort with Google Workspace, Scratch or similar coding platforms, and willingness to learn new tools (podcasting/video editing software, Tinkercad, AI tools) Strong classroom management and ability to differentiate for a range of skill levels Creativity in designing hands-on, multi-week projects Teaching certification a plus but not required for this part-time role
