If you enjoy working with children and have a passion for fitness, sports, and helping kids stay active, this is a great opportunity! The STEM Instructor will report directly to the Program Director and work alongside another staff member to ensure the safety and well-being of children ages 5-12. The instructor will develop and lead age-appropriate STEM lessons. Lessons will be adapted for different grade levels and abilities while creating an inclusive, engaging, and positive environment for students in grades K-5. This position is part of the Youth and Family Services division at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, elementary and middle school after-school programs, high school job readiness and career readiness programs, enrichment programming, and Adult and Immigrant Services.
Responsibilities:
Teach two STEM classes daily, with each class lasting 50-55 minutes.
Develop and submit engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans on time.
Adapt activities to meet the needs and abilities of different grade levels.
Prepare equipment and materials in advance to ensure safe and successful activities.
Plan and lead opportunities for students to demonstrate the skills they've learned through projects, challenges, or showcases.
Collaborate with instructors and Group Leaders to reinforce program goals and create a positive experience for students.
Meet regularly with the supervisor to share successes, discuss challenges, and receive feedback.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized gym space, and ensure all equipment is properly stored and in good condition.

Requirements:
Must be 18 years old or older. High School Diploma or equivalent required, college or relevant degree preferred.
A minimum of two years of experience working with children is required, experience working in an after-school environment is preferred. Experience in the field of STEM preferred.
Before hiring, fingerprints and background checks from the Department of Education and Department of Health must be finalized, along with a completed medical form.
Prior to employment, two professional reference letters and one personal reference letter are mandatory.
Must be able to work 13 school holidays throughout the year.
