Job Description

Job Summary This multi-faceted position requires a full knowledge of art handling safety, as well as an ability to complete the administrative, archival and registrarial steps necessary for safe and efficient storage and movement of artwork. Candidate must be willing to take on both complex and basic tasks with equal diligence. Responsibilities will include detailed and accurate condition reports, installation and de-installation of exhibitions and client viewings/acquisitions, packing and shipping of artwork, shipping coordination and delivery, building maintenance, accessioning artworks, and maintaining supplies in clean, well-organized manner. Candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure and be able to prioritize a range of responsibilities and requests from a large team of people. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to follow through with projects are essential. Responsibilities Pack/unpack artwork for shipment Install/de-install artwork in galleries and client residences Load/unload trucks; move crated/packed artwork throughout the gallery and offsite storage Safely store artwork in offsite storage Assist in preparing gallery for display/exhibition by spackling and light painting Make assessments concerning the safety of artworks and taking necessary action to secure artworks Assist in photography/videography of artwork Assist in construction of new or retrofitting existing crates Assist with gallery events Act as viewing assistant in partnership with sales team, requiring professional appearance and interaction with clients Perform other ad-hoc duties as requested by gallery manager Qualifications 2 years relevant experience in gallery, museum, auction house, or art handling company Experience interfacing with clients. Strong communication skills. Work professionally and responsibly with all other areas within the business. Punctual and proactive. Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with multiple tasks. Attention to detail. Self-starter, dedicated, driven, and enthusiastic problem solver. Ability to problem solve in a quick manner to insure installations function smoothly and uninterrupted. Experienced with Mac/macOS environments. Experience in basic carpentry and safe handling of power tools. Working knowledge of and experience with various packing materials and methods suitable to a wide range of works of art. Working knowledge of and experience with installation methods to a wide range of works of art. Ability to drive with valid license and clean driving record. Local travel and travel between galleries within HJFA network is required. Ability to work evening and weekend hours based on the needs of the business. Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds.

Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
