Gallery Intern Description:
Thalassa, a contemporary art gallery in downtown Rockport, MA, seeks a part-time Gallery Intern to support the day-to-day operations of the gallery. Working closely with the Gallery Director, the Gallery Intern will gain hands-on experience across a range of gallery activities, including exhibition installation, art handling, gallery administration, events, maintenance, and collector education. The position offers an opportunity to learn how a small contemporary art gallery operates while contributing meaningfully to exhibitions, programming and the visitor experience. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative and interested in contemporary art. They should befortable taking a hands-on approach to gallery work while also being polished, personable and professional when interacting with artists, visitors, collectors, and members of themunity. The schedule will be determined in collaboration with the Gallery Director once the intern is selected. Responsibilities Working closely with the Gallery Director, the Gallery Intern may assist with: Supporting artwork inventory/documentation, exhibition installation and deinstallation Assisting with art handling, packing, shipping, delivery, and receiving Maintaining gallery presentation and supporting day-to-day gallery operations Assisting with administrative andanizational projects Maintaining and updating the gallery Supporting gallery openings, programs, and other public-facing events Developing materials for new and prospective collectors, including educational resources such as a beginner's guide to collecting art Assisting with exhibition materials and artist information Supporting a weing and professional visitor experience in the gallery Compensation This internship is offered for academic credit. Reimbursement for transportation and a stipend for meals is offered for days when work ispleted on-site.

Thalassa will work with the selected intern and their academic institution toplete any required internship documentation.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have: A working knowledge of or strong interest in contemporary art Stronganizational skills and attention to detail A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to a range of hands-on tasks Strong written and verbalmunication skills A professional, personable demeanor andfort interacting with the public The ability to work thoughtfully and carefully with artwork and gallery materials Current enrollment in a higher education institution, ideally in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, design, or a related discipline Previous experience with art handling, exhibition installation, gallery or administrative work, or maintenance is helpful but not required.
