Part-Time Museum Assistant Hours:

The Reading Science Center is a vibrant, interactive science museum dedicated to sparking a love of STEM in children across the Greater Reading community. Our mission is to provide exciting, experiential learning opportunities that inspire future innovators and problem-solvers.
Position Overview:
The Museum Assistant at the Reading Science Center will coordinate the systems that support the organization's programs and administration. They will be responsible for client services including phone and email communications, patron parking issues, safety concerns and guest comfort. The position also includes onboarding new employees, interns and volunteers, all of whom are key to the sustainable operations of the Reading Science Center. Other administrative responsibilities include visitor tracking, exhibit maintenance and provide technology assistance. The position will also provide support for the Executive Director and the organization's special events. The position will also fill in as an educator/docent as the need arises for field trips, after-school programs or open hours by welcoming visitors, encouraging hands-on learning while guests are at the museum, or assisting with educator-led science lessons. Essential Functions/Duties
Onboard employees with standard HR paperwork and train in docent duties.
Recruit and supervise docents, interns and volunteers.
Assure employees, interns and volunteers have the required clearances on file and remain current.
Welcome and train volunteers to supplement paid resources
Maintain database records and produce reports and lists as required for development purposes.
Maintain a list for the Exhibit Committee of the Board of Directors of the exhibits that require maintenance.
Manage and support the Events Committee of the Board of Directors in planning the Reading Science Center special events including A Night of STEM & Stars and Celebrate Science Day.
Complete appropriate intern evaluations required for credit by their educational institutions.
Report Reading Science Center's metrics to national museum organizations.
Manage regular flow of prize pass requests.
Maintain annual renewals and build sales of new memberships and institutional passes.
Work schedule is 15 hours per week, plus additional hours worked as a docent/after-school programs/Saturdays.
Ability to work two Saturdays per month.
Ability to articulate science concepts.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Competencies
Previous experience supporting teams.
Supervisory experience.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Possess strong organizational and project management skills.
Previous use of database software such as Bloomerang, and payment platforms such as Square.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service ethic.
Must be able to lift and move 25 pounds.
