Job Description

Gallery Manager Art League of Hilton Head Hilton Head Island, SC Pay:
$17-$20 per hour, based on experience
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM, with additional hours around exhibit changes, receptions, and occasional weekends as needed Job Summary Art League of Hilton Head is seeking an organized, professional, and personable Gallery Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our nonprofit art gallery. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with artists, patrons, volunteers, and visitors and can balance excellent customer service with the administrative and physical demands of operating a busy gallery. The Gallery Manager serves as a primary point of contact for the public and our exhibiting artists and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, professional gallery experience.
Responsibilities:
Manage daily gallery operations and provide excellent customer service to visitors, patrons, and artists Greet visitors, answer questions, and provide information about exhibitions, artists, programs, and Art League Process artwork sales and other transactions using the gallery's point-of-sale system Communicate professionally with artists, members, patrons, volunteers, and staff by phone, email, and in person Assist with exhibit changeovers, including receiving, handling, hanging, displaying, and returning artwork Maintain accurate artwork, sales, and gallery records Assist artists with exhibition procedures and gallery policies Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional gallery environment Assist with receptions, artist events, demonstrations, and other gallery programs Make announcements and speak comfortably to groups during receptions and events Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers Perform other gallery-related duties as needed
Qualifications:
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Comfortable speaking in front of groups Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Point-of-sale, retail, gallery, museum, or similar customer-facing experience preferred Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy public environment Basic computer and email proficiency Dependable, professional, and able to work independently Art handling and/or exhibition installation experience preferred, but not required Interest in art and the nonprofit arts community is a plus
Physical Requirements:
This is an active position that includes regular handling and installation of artwork.
Applicants must be able to:
Lift and move up to 50 pounds Stand and walk for extended periods Bend, reach, and assist with moving and installing artwork Participate in gallery exhibit changeovers and setup
Hours:
Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. Because the Gallery must remain staffed during public hours, the Gallery Manager is expected to remain on-site for the entire scheduled shift. A separate lunch break is not provided. Additional hours are required periodically for exhibition changeovers, receptions, special events, and occasional weekends.
Compensation:
$17-$20 per hour, depending on experience. About Art League of Hilton Head Art League of Hilton Head is a nonprofit visual arts organization serving Hilton Head Island and the surrounding community through exhibitions, art education, special events, and opportunities for local and regional artists.
