Job Description

Wood Personnel Services is partnering with a local art museum in Nashville, TN to hire a Gallery Attendant for a special exhibition running from September through early January. The ideal candidate will have academic or professional experience in Art History, Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Art Education, or a related field, along with strong communication skills and a passion for engaging with museum visitors. The role combines visitor engagement, exhibition support, and hands-on interaction with immersive technology in a museum environment.
Gallery Attendant Compensation and Hours:
$17-19 an hour Temporary assignment running September 2026 through January 2027 Regular schedule is Thursday through Monday, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off; evening and weekend availability is required. Opportunity to gain experience in a professional museum setting while supporting a featured exhibition
Gallery Attendant Skills and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required Academic or professional experience in Art History, Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Art Education, Arts Administration, Visual Arts, or a related discipline strongly preferred Ability to discuss artwork, exhibitions, and cultural topics with visitors in a professional and engaging manner Strong communication and interpersonal skills Previous experience in a museum, gallery, arts organization, educational environment, or visitor-facing role preferred Comfortable learning and supporting virtual reality and exhibit technology Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday Highly dependable with strong attention to detail and professionalism Responsibilities of the Gallery Attendant Welcome visitors and create a positive, engaging experience within the exhibition space Introduce guests to the virtual reality experience and provide clear instructions for participation Assist visitors with the proper use of VR equipment and answer questions throughout their experience Monitor gallery activity to help ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants Share information about featured artwork, artists, and exhibition themes following museum training Observe equipment performance and communicate technical concerns as needed Clean, sanitize, organize, and prepare headsets and accessories between uses Recharge and maintain exhibit equipment to ensure daily operational readiness Assist with visitor flow and general exhibition support throughout operating hours Maintain a clean, organized, and professional presentation of the gallery environment Perform additional duties that support visitor services and exhibition operations as needed This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a special museum exhibition while working at the intersection of art, visitor engagement, and emerging technology.
