Idaho Military Museum

Museum Director

Job Description

MUSEUM DIRECTOR
Idaho Military Museum Boise, Idaho Part-Time (32 hrs/week)
Compensation:
$3500/month base + performance bonus of up to $7500 annually ~$49,500 total.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The Idaho Military Museum preserves and celebrates Idaho's military history from the Civil War to the present. Located adjacent to Gowen Field and the Boise Airport, the museum holds a substantial collection of aircraft, vehicles, uniforms, and artifacts representing the service of Idahoans across every major conflict. The museum operates under the Idaho Military History Society Board of Directors and maintains close ties with the Idaho National Guard.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Museum Director is the primary operational leader of the museum. You will work in close partnership with an engaged Board of Directors to run day-to-day operations, lead volunteer programs, support membership and fundraising execution, and represent the museum to its community. This is an execution-focused role with real performance upside — and a documented pathway to expanded scope and title as the museum grows.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
 Oversee daily museum operations: facility coordination, exhibit upkeep, visitor experience, and scheduling  Recruit, coordinate, and retain volunteers; manage membership administration and reporting  Support Board-led fundraising initiatives — donor communications, stewardship, and membership campaigns  Maintain and grow the museum's digital presence and social media channels  Represent the museum to community partners, schools, veteran organizations, and the Idaho National Guard  Provide operational updates to the Board; attend Board meetings; execute Board- approved priorities  Support visitor growth initiatives including event programming, school group coordination, and community outreach
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
 3-7 years of leadership or operational management experience in a nonprofit, museum, or small organization  Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing volunteers  Strong organizational skills; comfortable managing multiple priorities independently  Ability to work collaboratively with an engaged Board of Directors  Professional communication skills — written and verbal
Preferred:
 Experience supporting fundraising, donor stewardship, or membership programs  Familiarity with museum or cultural institution operations  Connection to military history, veteran community, or public service missions  Experience with community outreach, event coordination, or local partnerships  Basic digital skills: social media management, email platforms, Google Workspace
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base:
$3500/month (32 hours/week)  Annual performance bonus: up to $7500 based on Board-approved metrics (visitor growth, membership, volunteer engagement, fundraising support)  Flexible scheduling within operational requirements  Paid time off and holidays aligned with museum operations  Professional development opportunities as budget allows  Mission-driven environment with direct access to Idaho National Guard and veteran community networks
