Full-Time Head of Learning and Engagement Description:
Key Responsibilities Learning, Interpretation, and Public Programs- Develop and implement school tours, field trips, and curriculum-connected learning experiences.
- Create gallery activities, interpretive materials, and Learning Center experiences connected to the museum's collections and exhibitions.
- In collaboration with the Curator, plan and deliver lectures, artist talks, workshops, family and youth programs, and seasonal educational offerings in conjunction with current and upcoming exhibitions.
- Lead tours, gallery talks, discussions, demonstrations, and other educational programs for audiences of all ages.
- Collaborate with museum colleagues and participating artists to create interdisciplinary, age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Maintain a welcoming, visible presence in the galleries and engage visitors in conversations about art and exhibitions. School and Community Partnerships
- Strengthen relationships with Barnstable, Bourne, Mashpee, and Falmouth Public Schools and develop new opportunities for teachers and students.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Massachusetts K-12 Curriculum Frameworks and identify connections between classroom learning and the museum's collections and exhibitions.
- Build and sustain partnerships with schools, libraries, community organizations, cultural institutions, artists, and other regional partners.
- Develop off-site educational initiatives and collaborative programs that extend the museum's reach beyond its walls.
- Represent the Cahoon at meetings and events across Cape Cod and help increase awareness of and participation in its programs and exhibitions. Program Management, Evaluation, and Growth
- Coordinate teaching artists, workshop instructors, and education volunteers.
- Manage scheduling, training, program logistics, and performance feedback to support welcoming, high-quality experiences consistent with museum standards.
- Work with the Deputy Director to track attendance, participation, and audience engagement measures.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and community impact and use findings to refine future offerings.
- Identify opportunities for responsible program growth, financial sustainability, and expanded educational access for Cape Cod residents.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, art history, arts administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Three to five years of relevant experience in museum education, arts education, public programming, community engagement, or a related area.
- Demonstrated success developing and delivering educational or public programs.
- Strong public speaking, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with comfort engaging the public in both structured and spontaneous settings.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple programs and logistical details.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a museum or another informal learning environment.
- Familiarity with the Massachusetts K-12 Curriculum Frameworks.
- Experience building school or community partnerships.
- Experience using attendance, participation, or audience data to evaluate programs.
