Through innovative programs and museum initiatives, Greentrike fosters learning, joy, and community engagement, serving as a vital cultural resource in its region. Greentrike's programs include the Children's Museum of Tacoma, Children's Museum at JBLM, Play to Learn Pierce COunty, and Preschool Powered by Play.
Position Summary:
The Museums Manager serves as the operational backbone of the Children's Museum of Tacoma and the Children's Museum at JBLM, leading the team with expertise, vision, and a strong commitment to Greentrike's mission. This role requires advanced critical thinking and initiative to address challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations across both museums. The Museums Manager empowers Shift Leads and PlayGuides through coaching and support, navigates challenges with sound decision-making and proactive solutions, and drives continuous improvement in service to a vibrant visitor experience. This position also embodies Greentrike leadership, stepping in for the Associate Director of Museums and Earned Revenue as needed.
Duties:
Museum Operations (25%):
Calendar :
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Museums and Earned Revenue and Shifts Leads to manage the Children's Museum of Tacoma (CMT) and Children's Museum at JBLM (JBLM) calendars, ensuring clear communication with staff and visitors.
Staff :
Maintaining consistent coverage across shifts based on daily museum needs.
Logistics:
Order and track inventory levels of expendable supplies, including cleaning supplies and studio activities, directing replenishment as needed.
Building Security:
Manage building access for Museum facilities including coordination of key and security alarm code assignments.
Maintenance:
Monitor safety and serviceability ofPlayscapes and partner with Playscape Manager to facilitate timely repairs.
Health & Safety:
Partner with Human Resources to ensure implementation of Accident Prevention Program principles during Museum operations.
Monitoring:
Conduct audits of PlayGuide and Shift Lead performance of routine Museum operations.
Guest Relations:
Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement to increase efficiencies in Museum operations processes to better serve team members and guests. Performance Management (25%):
Coaching/Training:
Provide Museum Shift Leads leadership and management tools like coaching techniques and Performance Improvement Plans to enhance PlayGuide performance and efficiencies in operational processes.
Employee Relations:
Foster positive work environment by addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and promoting open communication.
Misconduct:
Conduct PlayGuide and Museum Shift Lead disciplinary and coaching meetings as needed. Talent Management (10%):
Recruiting:
Collaborate with Human Resources in creating job announcements, screening applicants, generating interview questions, and interviewing candidates.
Onboarding:
Oversee the completion of new hire tasks and completion of Museums Handbook.
Succession Planning:
Collaborate with Associate Director of Museums and Earned Revenue and Human Resources Manager to identify employees with high potential for promotion and design tailored professional development plans.
Staffing:
Approve weekly schedules, handle biweekly timesheets, review team availability, and approve time-off requests. Additionally, conduct quarterly staffing level reviews to ensure coverage is appropriate for operational needs. Administrative Tasks (25%): Assist Associate Director of Museums and Earned Revenue and the marketing team in development of strategies for meeting quarterly and annual earned revenue goals. Develop and refine training curriculum for Museum Shift Leads and PlayGuides. Regularly review and update the Museums Training Manual. Continuously evaluate and update internal documents and processes. Collaborating with the evaluation team to create and distribute surveying data. Data Entry - Supporting Data Analyst with Monarch Diaper Bank tracking, special event, and group visit counts. Marginal Tasks (15%):
Monarch Diaper Bank:
Manage and support the Monarch Diaper Bank Lead to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the diaper bank, including weekly check-ins and monthly audits. Provide oversight as they handle donation intake, volunteer engagement, inventory tracking, and coordination with internal teams.
Community Events:
Collaborate with local community partners and explore external community event participation. Manage and support the Community Events Shift Lead through weekly check-ins as they assist with planning, logistics, and on-site coordination for community events
Greentrike Special Events:
Organize team for setup, execution, and teardown. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
Strong critical thinking skills such as problem-solving and Sound judgment in addressing ambiguous situations with innovation and creativity. Effective team management and leadership skills with emphasis on ability to motivate employees and volunteers of various generational populations. Interpersonal skills with focus on working relationships with Greentrike staff, volunteers, board members, community partner representatives, vendors, and general public. Strong initiative for proactively identifying and addressing emerging needs. Strong project management skills with emphasis on prioritizing competing demands Flexibility and adaptability in the face of changing organizational priorities. Effective written and oral communication skills as well as active listening skills. High levels of cross-cultural fluency and empathy. Minimum (Required)
Qualifications:
18 years of age or older. HS diploma, GED, or equivalent. Reliable means of transportation to and from assigned worksites to meet scheduling and job requirements 3 years of experience in Supervisory roles with multiple team members. 3 years of experience in Customer Service roles. 2 years of experience working with young children and their caregivers. 1 year of POS and Cash Handling experience. Daytime, evening, weekend and holiday availability.
Conditions of Employment:
Ability to meet requirements for access to Joint Base Lewis-McChord upon job offer. Consent to undergo a background check upon hire. Agree to obtain CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid training certifications and WA State Food Worker Card upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs. Ability to walk around, reach, turn, and perform precision work for 8-hour shift. Ability to physically engage in play with children at their level. Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, and ramps. Ability to operate computer/POS Register and bar equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with College course credits in Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Management, or related field. College course credits in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching through the Arts, Child/Family Studies, or General Studies. Experience working in a museum. Experience in Supervisory roles managing diverse teams. Experience in retail or service industry roles. Experience in an early learning setting.
Pay:
$29.00 - $34.00 per hour
