Job Summary Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and versatile Music Teacher to provide instrumental music instruction at Catholic schools throughout Montgomery County, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate is an experienced music educator who enjoys working with children, is comfortable teaching students at varying skill levels, and can confidently teach across multiple instrument families. Teachers will travel to assigned Catholic schools and provide music instruction for a designated number of hours on scheduled teaching days. This position is ideal for a music educator who values building strong relationships with students, creating engaging learning environments, and helping young musicians develop confidence, musicianship, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Responsibilities Provide engaging individual and/or small-group instrumental music instruction during the school day. Teach students with varying levels of musical experience, including beginners. Provide instruction on a range of instruments based on student enrollment and school needs. Develop age-appropriate lessons that build students' technique, music-reading skills, musicianship, and confidence. Maintain an organized and positive learning environment. Track student attendance, participation, and musical progress. Prepare students for recitals, concerts, demonstrations, or other school performances when applicable. Communicate professionally with school administrators, classroom teachers, families, and program leadership. Maintain consistent attendance and arrive prepared and on time for scheduled teaching assignments. Follow all school policies and procedures, including requirements specific to Catholic school environments. Represent the music program professionally while working within partner schools. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Music Performance, or a closely related field required. 1-3 years of music teaching experience preferred , including private lessons, classroom music, band, orchestra, or small-group instruction. Ability to play and teach multiple instruments . Strong understanding of music fundamentals, notation, rhythm, technique, and beginning instrumental pedagogy. Experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged students. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Dependable, organized, flexible, and able to work independently. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between assigned schools in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. Must be able to successfully complete any background checks, fingerprinting, child-protection training, or other requirements established by participating schools or dioceses. Guitar and/or Ukulele Candidates are not required to be advanced performers on every instrument but should be comfortable providing quality beginning instruction across multiple instruments. Schedule This is a part-time, school-based position . Teachers will be assigned to one or more Catholic schools and will teach for a designated number of hours on scheduled days. Teaching primarily takes place Monday through Friday during regular school hours , with the possibility of occasional after-school instruction, concerts, recitals, or special events. The exact number of teaching hours will depend on school enrollment, scheduling, and teacher availability.
