Job Description

Category Schools - Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Job Type Contract Empower students to thrive through movement and inclusive education as an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher serving a diverse school community near Berkeley, CA. This contract opportunity spans the full academic year, from August 11, 2026, to June 4, 2027, and involves supporting students across multiple sites on an itinerant basis. As an on-site APE Teacher, you'll have the chance to make a significant impact by adapting physical education curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid California teaching credential permitting APE instruction Experience as an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher working with students with diverse physical and developmental needs Ability to develop and implement individualized physical education programs Knowledge of adapting activities and equipment for students requiring tailored instruction Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills Passion for promoting physical activity, inclusion, and student growth
Responsibilities:
Provide adaptive physical education services for students as outlined in individualized education programs (IEPs) Travel between school sites to deliver instruction as a member of the itinerant team Assess student abilities, develop instructional plans, and monitor progress Collaborate with general education teachers, special educators, and related service providers Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to IEP meetings Foster a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment for all students This role is structured as a 184-day, 35-hours-per-week contract, offering a pay range of $63-$67 per hour.
