JOB DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY
FUNCTION
Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher plans, develops, and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The teacher creates and maintains an educational environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students and supports the academic achievement and success of every child.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Educational Level:
Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university required.
Certification/License:
Must hold or be eligible for an appropriate Georgia educator certificate, permit, or other credential as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) for the assigned position.
Physical Activities:
Routine physical activities necessary to fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective communication, instructional planning, classroom management, organization, collaboration, technology integration, and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, administrators, and the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and reports to work as scheduled. Plans, prepares, and delivers effective instruction aligned with applicable Georgia standards, district curriculum, and school instructional expectations. Creates and maintains a safe, positive, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment that promotes student learning and development. Establishes clear learning objectives and communicates appropriate expectations for student achievement, behavior, and participation. Uses appropriate instructional strategies, materials, technology, and resources to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Assesses, monitors, documents, and evaluates student progress and uses assessment data to guide instruction and improve student achievement. Maintains accurate and timely student records, including grades, attendance, assessment information, and other required documentation. Provides appropriate interventions, enrichment, differentiation, accommodations, and instructional support based on individual student needs and applicable educational plans. Implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, Student Support Team (SST) interventions, and other student support requirements, as applicable to assigned students. Establishes and maintains effective classroom management procedures and appropriately supervises students during instructional and assigned non-instructional activities. Communicates regularly, professionally, and effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, administrators, and other appropriate stakeholders regarding student progress and educational needs. Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning, collaborative planning, parent conferences, school activities, and other meetings or programs as required. Works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, support personnel, and other staff to support student achievement and school improvement goals. Maintains confidentiality of student, employee, and school information in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, district policies, and professional standards. Follows all applicable federal and state laws, Georgia Department of Education requirements, GaPSC professional standards, Twiggs County Public Schools policies and procedures, and school-level expectations. Maintains appropriate professional conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior in interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the community. Participates in professional learning and other activities designed to improve professional knowledge, instructional practices, and student outcomes. Properly uses and safeguards district property, instructional materials, technology, equipment, and other resources. Supervises students as assigned during arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, extracurricular activities, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities. Reports student safety, welfare, disciplinary, or other concerns to the appropriate administrator in accordance with district procedures and applicable reporting requirements. Supports the mission, vision, goals, and improvement initiatives of Twiggs County Public Schools and the assigned school. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal, Superintendent, or designee that are consistent with the general nature and scope of the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to plan, organize, and provide effective standards-based instruction. Knowledge of effective instructional practices, assessment methods, classroom management strategies, and student development. Ability to establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. Ability to effectively supervise students and respond appropriately to student needs. Ability to communicate information clearly and professionally to students, parents/guardians, colleagues, administrators, and groups. Ability to analyze student performance information and use data to inform instructional decisions. Ability to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate support for students with varying academic, behavioral, social, and developmental needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, administrators, and community members. Ability to use technology and district-approved instructional systems necessary to perform assigned responsibilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise professional judgment, and comply with district policies and applicable legal requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, reaching, bending, and other physical activities associated with supervising and instructing students. The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, equipment, or other items associated with the position, with weights normally not exceeding thirty (30) pounds. The employee must be able to move throughout classrooms, hallways, school facilities, and other instructional or supervisory areas as necessary. The position may occasionally require outdoor supervision and exposure to varying weather conditions.
