The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and a genuine love for working with preschool-aged children. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, and academically while preparing for kindergarten. Duties & Responsibilities Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that support kindergarten readiness. Provide engaging learning experiences in areas including language and literacy, mathematics, science, social-emotional development, fine and gross motor skills, and creative expression. Create and maintain a welcoming, organized, and stimulating classroom environment. Build positive, nurturing relationships with children and provide individualized support based on their needs and interests. Use positive and developmentally appropriate behavior guidance strategies. Observe, document, and assess children's developmental progress and use observations to guide instruction. Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding children's development, classroom experiences, and needs. Follow New York State Early Learning Guidelines and applicable preschool learning standards. Support children's social-emotional development, independence, problem-solving, and self-help skills. Collaborate with fellow teachers, administration, families, and outside professionals to support children's individual needs. Maintain accurate classroom records, attendance, lesson plans, and developmental documentation. Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate classroom in accordance with OCFS regulations and center policies. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, trainings, and center events. Incorporate age-appropriate opportunities for spiritual growth and learning consistent with the mission of St. Timothy Lutheran Child Care Center. Assist with the supervision and care of children throughout the daily program, including meals, rest time, outdoor play, and transitions. Work cooperatively with all staff members to promote a positive and supportive center environment. Requirements & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. To qualify as a Group Teacher for a preschool classroom, the candidate must meet one of the following qualifications: Option 1: An Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field. Option 2: A Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or another Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period and one year of experience related to caring for children. Option 3: At least 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field, with a plan of study leading to a CDA Credential, another Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period, or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field, and two years of experience related to caring for children. Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices. Strong classroom management and positive behavior guidance skills. Ability to develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate learning activities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, coworkers, administration, and outside professionals. Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to individual developmental needs. Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds repeatedly and safely assist children as needed. Must be dependable, patient, flexible, and enthusiastic. A genuine passion for teaching and nurturing young children is essential. Must meet all applicable New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requirements for the position.
