The Active Reading Center (ARC) is currently seeking dependable, dedicated Reading Instructors for K-12th graders at our center in Walnut Creek, CA. ARC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, physician recommended organization that has been opening the doors to reading success since 1992. ARC uses Open Reading/Reading Revolution®, a proven methodology, enabling students to become proficient readers while helping them develop a lifelong love of reading. Position Description:
  • Following successful completion of the required training (see details below) in the Open Reading/Reading Revolution® Methodology you will:
  • Create individualized lesson plans and provide one-on-one instruction based upon individual student learning needs.
  • Review and interpret assessments and prepare written progress reports (a template is provided).
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (evening)
  • Must commit to teaching a minimum of 2 afternoons / 2 students per week during the school year (Aug-May). Instruction is offered between 3-6pm.
  • Must commit to teaching one 4 or 4.
5-week summer session, 2 students (June or July-early Aug; daily teaching M-F, am or pm)
Note:
we are unable to guarantee a number of students or minimum hours of work as it depends on enrollment level. Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess:
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • are needed to convey information to students, listen to their needs, and understand their unique ways of communicating.
  • English Fluency / English language
  • must be able to read accurately and clearly speak and write.
  • Ability to evaluate student progress, identify areas of need, and adapt as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to engage students and create a safe, motivating learning environment.
