Position Summary:
The Reading Specialist provides targeted literacy instruction to students who require additional support in developing foundational reading skills. This role focuses on delivering structured, evidence based intervention aligned with the Science of Reading, while using student data to guide and adjust instruction.
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver small group and one to one reading intervention using structured literacy approaches Apply Orton Gillingham based strategies to support decoding, fluency, and comprehension Implement 95 Percent Group programs with fidelity Use screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data to plan and adjust instruction Track student performance and maintain accurate data records Collaborate with teachers, interventionists, and school leadership to align support for students Participate in team meetings to review student progress and refine intervention plans Communicate student progress with families in a clear and timely manner
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or related field preferred K-4 Classroom experience is required Reading Specialist certification or equivalent experience Training in Orton Gillingham or similar structured literacy approach Experience with 95 Percent Group programs preferred Strong understanding of the Science of Reading Experience using data to inform instruction and intervention
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of foundational literacy instruction Ability to analyze student data and adjust teaching strategies Effective communication and collaboration skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Commitment to improving student literacy outcomes
